1997 Last summer, New York 97 grads got away every chance they could to enjoy "the sun, fun, and craziness" of the Hamptons, reports ANITA BATHIJA. The Hampton crew included MICHELLE BRANCHEAU, JOHN BUCHBINDER, AMY CHIANG, KAREN DILLON, ANDREW DINSMORE, CONSTANZA FERRO, HOKE HORNE, JAVIER ORTIZ, and SUSAN TUTTLE, 96. When spring came around, the class was well represented at the GSB Alumni Celebration in New York in May. In attendance were MIMI BAKER, JASON BATTAGLIA, MIKE GOODMAN, SUSAN HOPKINSON, HORNE, JASON KOFMAN, ORTIZ, BRANCHEAU, BATHIJA, BUCHBINDER, DILLON, FERRO, and many others. MELANIE S. BERNHARDT was promoted to first vice president and director of the integrated services department of ABN AMRO Information Technology Services Company in Chicago. She is responsible for all computer system conversions related to ABN AMROs recent acquisition of Standard Federal Bank of Michigan. KENNETH C. BURKE recently took a position as senior associate for corporate acquisitions with Ocwen Financial Corporation in West Palm Beach, Florida. CATHY CARROLL reports that she spent two months backpacking in Africa. After trekking through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Kenya, she settled in Dallas with LAURA MCKUIN. Since her arrival in Texas, she has seen many classmates including CHRISTY ALDIKAS, STACEY TRUE, LARRY TAYLOR, JOE POPOLO, ROB LOVE, JIM LEE, MIR AAMIR, GERRY CABALERO, ANDREA PAGE, JAY LINNEY, DEAN SIEWERT, and DARRYL MARTIN. RAJ CHAUHAN and Preeti were married on June 18, 1998, in Ujjain, India, and have moved into a new apartment in Jersey City. AMY CHIANG spent her summer shuttling between Manhattan, the Hamptons, and the Jersey Shore. Now shes planning way ahead for a European New Years ski trip to bring in 1999. Anyone interested should give her a call. ERIC CHERNIK and his wife, Beth, recently ventured to Houston to see Linda and MIKE ELWOOD. Chernik writes that he "played reporter" at a recent TNDC (Thursday night drinking club) in Chicago, and heres what he found out. "CANDICE MARTINEZ has been hitting the softball field with the likes of MARCIA HUNT, MATT SANDERSON, JAY LINNEY, DAN JONES, PETER SULLIVAN, GRAHAM WIK, and SCOTT NORBY. KARA LAWRENCE was married in 1997 to AL DICRISTOFANO and Amoco life is keeping her busy. JAY RUDMAN and CINDY LESTER have been furiously planned their wedding and LOUISA WOOD was recently in town to enjoy engagement festivities. PAT HALLINAN is engaged to JULIE KEMP. ARIF AHMED recently took Philly and NYC by storm, hooking up with the gang of GAUTAM RANJI, ADAM SPIELMAN, MIKE GUPTA, and ARPAN PATEL. ZANNA GOLDBLATT has decided that Chicago is the place for her, and she recently bought a townhouse in Lincoln Park. PHIL FRY is spending his free time trying to earn a pilot license. Susan and CHUCK STRICKLER are expecting their second child. DALE MEYERHOEFFER is also engaged to be married. TODD HOWERTER is having a blast working on Fords advertising ventures in the third world and is now engaged to marry TRACIE ENG on November 14. RUSS RIBEN has made the successful move from Houston and Compaq to Detroit and GM. GRAHAM WIK enjoyed a recent exotic vacation to the safari parks of Disney World. PETER KEIM recently became engaged to his business school sweetheart, KATY TURNER. They are enjoying San Francisco living, though Keim misses Wrigley Field and the Cubs. JOE REIFEL is making trips to Hartford with A.T. Kearney. He and his wife, Ellen, are making lots of progress on their house in Glen Ellyn." KAREN DILLON reports that after spending the fall training in London and Tokyo, she is "happy to be back in NY living with AMY CHIANG. Although Im still doing Japanese Equities, I left BZW and went over to the Dutch bank ABN AMRO." STEVEN GAIPA writes: "I just joined Lucent Technologies as a strategic marketing manager. The hours are long, but the stock has gone up 20 points since Ive been here! Friends can call me at (908) 953-7150." Gaipa lives in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. J. EDUARDO GONZALEZ is working away in McKinsey Mexico but had a chance to visit fellow classmates this summer in New York. BRYAN GREEN formed First Southeastern Capital Management, a commodity trading advisory firm with over $6 million under management. "The firms risk-adjusted track record has been rated in the top ten of all diversified trading advisors by international traders research," Green reports. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. HOKE HORNE spent the spring in South Africa. While working hard on his McKinsey project during the week, he spent weekends on safaris and adventures throughout the country and surrounding areas including Victoria Falls. GAURAV ISSAR writes that he left James Martin and Co. to start Nexus Consulting Group, L.L.C., a Chicago-based management consulting firm that specializes in information technology services. The company was formed in January, and Issar hopes to slowly expand in the midwest. JEFF KELLER and his wife, Molly, have moved into a small house in a corner of Santiago, Chile, called Las Condes. "Its a great location and gives Masai, the newest four-legged member of our family (a black lab pup), the chance to dig big holes in the yard, which he enjoys very much. There is a great group of international folks down here from all over, which keeps it fun." Keller reports that he and Molly have been playing tons of tennis, golfing, camping, beaching, fishing, and just got in on a winter ski house in the mountains outside of Santiago. "On the work front, things have been plenty interesting given the Bank of America-Nationsbank merger," he writes. "The office down here is about 70 people which makes it possible to work for a huge company yet feel like you are part of a more entrepreneurial operation, which is great. Molly has just started working for a small consulting company started by a couple of Thunderbird grads, which helps American companies establish themselves here in Chile." The Kellers will be in San Francisco for almost two months in the fall for a training program and would love to see anyone who will be there at that time. They can be reached at mjkeller@entelchile.net. STEVE KLIMKOWSKI has been promoted from vice president to senior vice president at ABN AMRO Chicago Corporation. In this position, he is in charge of fixed income for ABN AMRO Chicago Corporate Asset Management. He lives in Hinsdale, Illinois, with his wife and their three children. GARY KURTZMAN and Tonya Ann Sunday became engaged in December. They are planning a September 19 wedding in Petoskey, Michigan. The couple currently lives in the Bay Area of California. CHRIS LODGE is engaged to marry Annie Connolly in February 1999. He reports that life is good for him in Tokyo with Morgan Stanley. SCOTT NORBY accepted a new job with Morgan Stanley in Chicago. ANDREW NUGENT reports a new addition to the family: Andrew Nugent Jr., born February 24. The senior Nugent is a founding partner of ILP Consulting in Chicago. MICHAEL POTESHMAN was promoted to vice president and controller of Tupperware Corporation in January. He lives in Winter Park, Florida. SCOTT RUDY has transferred from Zurich to London with Union Bank of Switzerland. FRANCISCO SALONIA spent an incredible summer in the Hamptons social scene. After spending the fall, winter, and spring commuting between New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, LORI SLACK kicked off her summer presenting merger, acquisition, and alliance valuation tools at the Andersen partners meeting at Disney World. It was a very rewarding trip, and Slack ended a project and started her vacation on her birthday. Overall, a busy travel schedule was more than bearable thanks to good GSB friends who enabled her to have a life in Chicago and New York as well as San Francisco. When at home in San Francisco, Slack and her roommate, ANEYSHA PEARCE, continued to act as social catalysts for the GSB, hosting parties attended by LORI LANCASTER, TIM BRENNAN, MARIANNE LLEWELLYN, LOUISA WOOD, CRAIG TOKUSATO, MARK TROMBLEY, ARPAN PATEL, ZHENYA MEYLIKHOVA, DAVE SCOTT, and Christina Pollak, MIKE STAIGER, LISA CAVALLARI, GENE MANYAK, and TOM and Lisa STEPHENSON. At the time of writing, Slacks summer work plans were as yet undetermined. "Uncertainty is what I get paid for," she writes. ANDY SONG has gone to Seoul, Singapore, Manila, Phuket, and India this spring. He reports that life in Hong Kong is pretty smooth and he now has a life outside of work as well. Song says that cannot wait to visit the states, and that hell be dropping into NYC in October. He also reports that he sees ALISTAIR LING and ROB GREYBER very often in Hong Kong even though they are also been incredibly busy with work. DEBORAH T. STOTTS was promoted to senior vice president of the administration department of ABN AMRO Inc. She works with ABN AMROs chief executive officer to analyze new business opportunities and is involved in strategic planning and general administration. RAM and ELLEN (KOONMEN) SUBRAMANIAM will be heading to London in September to spend a year to 18 months abroad. Ram will be working for BCGs London office and Ellen will be transferring with Merrill Lynch. Anyone traveling to that part of the world should give them a ring. ANDY SUGERMAN writes that he took a new position as principal at a small strategic consulting/private equity firm in Boston called the Parthenon Group. The company focuses on strategy design while managing both a private equity fund and a newly formed LBO fund. "It seems like an exciting place to work and will leverage both my general management and financial skills," he reports. "Sarah is doing well with her job, and Sophie is yet again on another diet. That dog knows how to eat!" SEIICHI WAKANA is an associate in the investment banking division at Merrill Lynch Japan. Wakana lives in Tokyo. DEBORAH WEINSWIG has spent most of her postgraduation life at work. She has just published her first piece, "The S&P 500: More Global than You Think," under her own name. The beginning of her summer was spent traveling to Asia and Europe for Morgan Stanley followed by several truly relaxing weekends in the Hamptons. Weinswig is enjoying herself so much at work that she even convinced her brother, Mark, to join her there. DAVID YAHN married Shane Jennings on May 16 in Washington, D.C. Eileen King, David Rubenstein, and Ben Kahn were on hand to help them celebrate their big day. The couple honeymooned in St. Thomas. MARCUS YODER continues to be a traveling machine between Chicago and Indianapolis where he spent a good part of the summer on a Price Waterhouse project. However, he was able to escape to San Francisco on several occasions to spend time with girlfriend, ZHENYA MEYLIKHOVA. The couple were also in New York for a brief weekend in June and had a chance to see the old gang. ALEX ZYNGIER and Stacia were married this spring in Miami. |
