1990

MICHAEL F. AHERN accepted the position of controller of Transmeta Corporation, a development stage semiconductor company located in Santa Clara, California. He previously worked for Arthur Andersen L.L.P. in Chicago and Los Angeles and, most recently, Ernst & Young L.L.P. in San Jose. Ahern lives in San Jose with his wife, Cathy, and their two children, Erin and Colleen.

KEN GOODHEART joined the mergers and acquisitions practice of KPMG Peat Marwick as a senior manager, where he performs deal structuring services and due diligence investigations for buyers of target companies. He lives in Schaumburg, Illinois.

BERGEN MEREY recently moved to the United Kingdom from Germany, working for Procter & Gamble as European marketing manager for oral care products.

ELANA MUEHLEIP married Stephen A. Siatczynski on March 21 in Galena, Illinois. Muehleip works for Ford Motor Company as a pricing specialist for the Asia-Pacific region, worldwide direct market operations. Her husband is a product design engineer at the automatic transmission engineering office at Ford Motor Company. The couple lives in Troy, Michigan.

GARY PURK was named a vice president of American Drug Stores in August 1997. He manages the home and health division, which encompasses home health care satellite stores and home medical delivery services. Purk and his wife, Mary, live with their three children in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.

PAUL and JENNIFER (KULP) TASHIMA welcomed their second child, Isabelle, on May 5. Isabelle joins her sister, Taylor, who was born in August 1996. Paul is a senior vice president at PaineWebber specializing in corporate cash management, and Jennie is a vice president at Goldman Sachs in international equity training. The family lives in Chicago.

PETER G. THURSBY was promoted to first vice president of LaSalle National Bank’s loan syndication department. Previously he served as vice president of the department. He lives in Park Ridge, Illinois, with his wife, Therese, and their children, John and Kathleen.

JANICE R. VAN EKEREN writes: "KEVIN M. SYPOLT and I moved to Singapore last September after six years of enjoying London. Kevin is a director for SBC Warburg Dillon Read and I’m now controller for GE Capital Asia Pacific. Kevin and I (along with proud big brothers Philip, 3, and Austin, 1) are celebrating the arrival of Ellen RaeLeigh Remember, born on March 16."

STEVEN C. WENNERSTRUM joined ABN AMRO North America, Inc., as senior vice president in the strategic sourcing and procurement group. He lives in Western Springs, Illinois, with his wife, Kathleen, and their two sons.

JOHN H. ZIEGENBEIN reports that in September 1997 he began his third career as counsel to the president of the architecture and engineering firm HDR, Inc. "In my first career," Ziegenbein writes, "I spent 20 years as an attorney with the Kiewit Group of companies. My second career, as a first time, stay-at-home dad, began three and a half years ago with the birth of our son, Charlie. I am now almost 51 years old, very tired, and thoroughly enjoying every minute of being a parent. Belatedly, my hat goes off to all my colleagues in the weekend program who not only worked full time during the week but also found time to be attentive parents as well. All of you who fit that description must still be tired!" Ziegenbein and family live in Omaha, Nebraska.

TERESA M. ALVAREZ and PETER GERRITSEN, ’94, welcomed their second child, Amanda Elane, on February 6. Amanda, her brother, Anthony, and their parents live in Glenview, Illinois. Alvarez is a principle with Booz Allen & Hamilton in the energy, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals practice. Gerritsen recently joined BASF Corporation’s cosmetic chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates marketing group as product manager.

CAROL M. CROWDUS married Jeffrey C. Barbour on May 9 in Chicago. Crowdus is an account manager with the Financial Relations Board. Barbour is a wine consultant with Glunz Wines, as well as a baritone with the Chicago Symphony Chorus. The pair honeymooned in Scotland. In attendance at the nuptials were several Chicago alumni, including the bride’s brother, Warren Crowdus, J.D. ’85; 1992 GSB grads KRISTIN MERRIGAN, TIM DEADY, STUART MERTON, DENISE BROWNING, and JIM TUCHLER; JIM and JULIE BARBOUR, ’81, (the groom’s brother and sister-in-law); university graduates Will Flacksbart; John and Jennifer Leovy; Matthew and Jennifer Sucher; and former chemistry post-doc Mark Scholfield.

CHRISTOPHER and EILEEN (STACH) FANNING have relocated to Portland, Oregon. Chris is the director of strategic planning for Lattice Semiconductor Corporation in Hillsboro, Oregon. Eileen currently enjoys managing their one-year-old son, Ryan.

RONALD WAGNER was named chief communications officer of the San Francisco-based digital agency Novo/Ironlight. The company formed in February after a merger between Novo Media Group and Ironlight Digital. Wagner was a founder and coowner of Ironlight.

1992
CHRISTINE CANTARINO accepted a new position with Motorola in Schaumburg, Illinois. She will serve as the director of marketing and strategy for international infrastructure within the land mobile products sector. She lives in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

JENNIFER K. DANIELS has been named director of marketing for the Enterprise Resource Solutions business unit of Cambridge Technology Partners. She previously was marketing manager for Cambridge Management Consulting.

BRIAN J. GIBBS, Ph.D. ’92, reports that in September he will become associate professor of management in marketing and behavioral science at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. Gibbs formerly was assistant professor at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

1993
ALFREDO BAQUERIZO reports the birth of his son, Emilio, on February 9. The family is living in Bogota, Columbia.

RAHEELA GILL ANWAR welcomed her second child, a daughter named Amara. The family resides in Winnetka, Illinois.

JOHN CALLISTER, an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Tri-State University of Indiana, was elected president of the faculty at the university.

JIM CRAMER writes that he married immediately following graduation, and on December 1, 1997, he and his wife, Karyn, welcomed the arrival of son Elijah Cramer. Cramer is currently working at U.S. West, where he was promoted to director of financial planing and analysis. He lives in Denver.

JOANN FUJII moved to a new position within Abbott Laboratories at the end of 1997. She is now business manager and licenses drugs and drug devices for the hospital products division.

RODRIGO GOMEZ writes: "My wife, Maritza, and I are proud to share with you the birth of Trinidad last summer. She joins her older sisters, 5-year-old Francisca and 2-year-old Rosario. I am in charge of business development for CMPC, a paper goods company with operations in several countries in South America. I am based in Santiago, Chile, but travel quite often to Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, and Lima."

ROBERT HARLAN and his wife, Colette, welcomed a son, John Noah. The family lives in Chicago.

BARBARA HAUSMAN is now senior development manager at U.S. Equities Development, Inc., in Chicago. She will oversee the redevelopment of Philadephia’s 30th Street Station and a project in Chicago’s South Loop.

MARTIN JUHN reports that he is still working at Ecolab but has moved from corporate planning to mergers and acquisitions. He is now in Europe as controller of the professional hygiene division. He plans to be there for three to five years. Juhn is living in Germany and on the lookout for fellow alums. "I hooked up with fellow alums SCOTT CADE in Amsterdam and BARBARA PRALLE in Rotterdam. I’d like to know if there are other GSB alums in the area," he writes.

TOM KLOUDA recently published his second management report of members of the U.S. Congress, "1997 Senate Staff Employment: Salary, Tenure, Demographics, and Benefits." The report was published by the Congressional Management Foundation. Klouda lives in Maryland.

NIEK LAGERWEYK writes: "First and foremost, I married Myriam de la Cruz in November 1996. I joined Sara Lee Corporation in September 1993 as a senior analyst and worked for Sara Lee subsidiary Playtex Apparel Mexico as manager of a manufacturing systems project in logistics from October 1994 to October 1996. From October 1996 through August 1997, I worked on the same project in Atlanta. Currently I am manager of inventory control and production planner for Playtex and Ralph Lauren in Atlanta."

GEORGE LEWIS recently accepted the position of chief financial officer at Japanese-owned Pokka Beverages, Inc.. "This move necessitated my relocation from southern to northern California," he writes. "I welcome communication from any GSB alums in the Bay area."

FRANK R. MACK has been promoted to senior vice president of Turnaround & Crisis Management in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. He is a certified turnaround professional and a certified public accountant.

M. JOSEPH MALLAHAN reports that he and his wife, Carolyn, adopted two daughters from Russia in October 1997: Irina, 6, and Masha, 2. Mallahan left his job as president of Century Supply Company in December to return to Coopers & Lybrand and head its team on new accelerated transition. His wife graduated from Kellogg in 1996 and joined Children’s Hospital in Lincoln Park as a senior business analyst. The family lives in Chicago.

DAN ORZECHOWSKI married Rosemarie Mangin in August 1993. The couple lives in San Clemente, California. Orzechowski works for the U.S. Department of Treasury as an appeals officer for the Internal Revenue Service. "We have a great balance of professional and personal life," he writes.

SOYUN PARK and DUNCAN SQUIRE are delighted to announce the birth of a son, Oliver, on March 6. The couple has lived in London since their marriage in April 1995. Squire is a director in the financial markets risk advisory group at SBC Warburg Dillon Read, and Soyun is on maternity leave from her marketing position at Nestlé UK. SCOTT W. PARSON is vice president of marketing and human resources at Jack B. Parson Companies. He writes: "On December 1, 1997, my wife, Allison, gave birth to triplets: Rachel, Alex, and Marisa. Parenthood is great! The kids are doing well and we’re loving life in the Rocky Mountains!" The family lives in Utah.

JOHN F. PHELAN has opened his own international business consulting firm, SCS International. He focuses on the high-tech sector, concentrating on sales and marketing consulting and helping U.S. firms take their products to the global market. Phelan lives in Wilmette.

PIERRE W. PRIESTLEY recently accepted a position with American National Bank and Trust as a deferred exchange trust officer. "I like working in downtown Chicago and would enjoy getting together with some of my classmates," he writes.

ROB REBAK writes: "Sticking to drugs, I have recently moved from Schering-Plough to take a position as director of business development at Bristol-Myers Squibb. A great reason to change jobs (that was not included in the recent job satisfaction survey) is the chance to spend a few weeks in the islands between jobs." Rebak lives in Princeton, New Jersey.

EUGENIA SHEPARD is a vice president at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin in Los Angeles, a position which she says rescued her from the snow and ice of Chicago. "I have spent the last two years transforming Mergerstat, an M & A research service, into an electronically-distributed real-time source of M & A information." She has also been working in product and business development.

PAUL SPIELDENNER writes that he left Fidelity to join the Tokyo office of Tiger Management in November 1996. His third child was due in June.

MORGAN C.W. SZE reports that he is now working in London.

LOREN J. TRIMBLE reports that he is senior manager with Arthur Andersen, responsible for the Innovations in Nonsalary service line in the central region located in Chicago. He and his wife, Anne, have three children: Joshua, Caleb, and Kelsey. The family lives in Schaumburg, Illinois.

RAINER WENZ was featured in the February 16 international edition of Business Week‘s. Wenz, an entrepreneur who runs more than a dozen businesses including a retail chain and a bistro, was described as an example of the new generation of German heirs who–unlike their postwar-generation parents–are willing to take financial risks to build businesses.

SONJA WESER writes: "I married Thilo Weser and changed my name from Herzog to Weser–the biggest change in my life. The greatest thing in our life thereafter is Carl Wendelin, who born on January 17. He keeps us busy! I still work for McKinsey as an engagement manager. Since Carl’s birth, I work part time." Weser and family live in Munich.
