| 1980 JAMES CONDON was recently appointed COO of CyberCash. The company makes technology that allows merchants to accept payment over the Internet. BRUCE DELAHORNE writes that he has moved into the world of radio at CBS and has become executive director of the worlds largest dating service. He lives in Evanston, Illinois. SHIGEO ICHIKAWA was named general manager of the head office, corporate banking division VII, at Fuji Bank, Ltd. The new division is in charge of major non-Japanese corporations located in Tokyo. JOACHIM KLEIN reports that he is now working for Lucas Varity, an EnglishAmerican company, as finance manager for its technology center in Germany. 1982 SUNIL SUBBAKRISHNA and his wife, Geetha, celebrated the arrival of their second child, Maya, on November 26, 1997. Mayas big brother, Salil, who was 9 in February, "cant wait to take her for show and tell in his third grade class," the proud father writes. "After three and one-half years living in the New York area, we must admit with some surprise that we thoroughly enjoy being here, and although we miss our friends and family in the Chicago area, we are happy to have made the move." 1983 WILLIAM MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM and his Washington, D.C.-based company, Creative Investment Research, were profiled in the April 1997 issue of Emerge magazine. The firm rates minority-owned businesses and brokerages by considering financial performance, the economic condition of the surrounding area, and how well the firm addresses social concerns in the community. MICHAEL DORNBROOK joined Harmonix Music Systems, Inc., as vice president of sales and marketing in January. Harmonix is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based startup that recently released its first interactive music album. LISA PAGE HARDING changed jobs, leaving Southern Connecticut Gas Company to become supply manager for Pfizer. With the job change came a move to a new home in Madison, Connecticut. "Its only a mile and a half from the beach. Visitors are welcome," she writes. CURT MASTER has been living in Almaty, Kazakhstan, for the past two years. He is a partner in the law firm of Baker & McKenzie specializing in privatizations and foreign investments in the Central Asian republics of the former Soviet Union. ED MILLER became a principal at OmniTech Consulting Group, Inc., last January, with responsibility for the corporate training practice. OmniTech focuses on marketing and strategy consulting as well as corporate training. He writes: "There are lots of U of C types at OmniTech, most of whom connected through Harry Davis and the New Product Lab. I am also an elder on the Session at Fourth Presbyterian Church (since my friend and classmate, Cathe Russe asked, yes, we are old enough to be elders) and chair the Mission Outreach Committee, which oversees Fourths well-known tutoring program from Cabrini Green and Henry Horner homes." GAVIN MORRIS was recently appointed finance director of Ionica, a new national telephone service in the United Kingdom. He also serves as a member of the companys board of directors and executive committee. GLORIA SANTELLA was profiled in the March 23 Wall Street Journal. Santellas experiences as a fund manager for Stein, Roe & Farnham offered a "human and corporate story of the rise and fall and possible recovery of a risky stock fund," the Journal wrote. DAVID STARR is living in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Carla, who is a graduate of the College. "Despite this, we met in Portland, not Chicago," he writes. The medical device company he cofounded just celebrated its first birthday. MARGE WATERSTREET reports that her comedy, Familiar Faces, was produced in March by Salt and Pepper Mimes New Ensemble Actors Theatre in New York City. Her new comedy, A Matter of Scale, was published in September 1997 by the Awakening Center in Chicago. Maharajas Leftovers was performed in Chicago as part of the Womens Theater Alliances new plays festival, and her comedy Stranger at My Gate was performed in April by L.A.s Firststage. Waterstreet lives in Chicago. ANTHONIE J. ZOOMERS has joined Campina Melleunie, a dairy company headquartered in the Netherlands, as a member of the board of management. 1984 VICTOR H. CHANG was promoted to director of the national public finance department at ABN AMRO Inc. in Chicago. He is responsible for managing debt restructuring and municipal funding projects through capital markets. He is also a member of ABN AMROs public funds group. Previously he served as a vice president. RAUL RAMIREZ DEGOLLADO joined Salomon Smith Barney as a director in the Latin America investment banking group in January. He is responsible for the practice in the Mexico City office. MARJORIE GREENSPAN KAUFMAN writes: "I am delighted to announce that on March 21 I married David Kaufman. David is a urologist in private practice and is also as assistant clinical professor of urology at Columbia. I received my CFA in 1996 and am currently a managing director at Towneley Capital Management, Inc., in New York, in charge of marketing. Towneley manages over $1 billion in institutional equity and balanced accounts and also manages the Eclipse mutual funds and Libre hedge funds. David, my stepdaughter, Michele, and I live in New York City." MICHAEL KEANE was recently hired as an adjunct professor at University of South California, where he teaches corporate finance in the Graduate School of Business. "I am also keeping my day job as an investment banker with the Seidler Companies," he reports. 1985 JOHN J. CLARK, founder and president of Clark & Associates market research firm, was profiled in the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette in March. The article, "In Praise of Good Bosses," focused on Clarks track record as a supervisor and his philosophy of treating both clients and employees well. C. BRYAN DANIELS, 85, see STEPHEN V. KING, 88. MARK GOLDBERG is COO of Physicians Quality Car. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. TERRENCE ROBERT HUSER joined Marsh Supermarkets, Inc., in August 1997 as executive director for incentive compensation and strategic planning. He and his wife, Kathy, have ten children ranging in age from 5 to 18. JOSEPH JOHNSON writes: "Greetings from Tapai, Taiwan, land of continually cloudy skies but unflaggingly sunny people! Ive been here five years already and will probably not be here much longer, so if youve always wanted to see the imperial treasures of China at the National Palace Museum but lacked a place to stay, nows your chancemy door is always open to all my good friends from the GSB! My wife and I (married three years) are expecting our first child in August. This is the Chinese "year of the tiger," so were quite anxious to see if well get a little tiger or a sweet kitten! KHAN writes: "I have moved from the credit group at Heller Financial in Chicago where I was overseeing high leverage real estate transactions. I now head the newly created small loan program. I am responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a high volume loan production operation for originating fixed-rate loans on small commercial properties. At present we are in the pilot phase with plans for a nationwide launch by the end of the year." 1987 PAUL J. POTOCKI was promoted to senior vice president of the treasury department at ABN AMRO in Chicago. Potocki will oversee interest rate derivatives trading throughout North America. He lives in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, with his wife, Karen, and their six children. ANDREW and MAUREEN BROWN THOMAS reported that their first child, Caroline Ann, was born on April 7. 1988 PAUL DANEHY, and his wife, Diane, welcomed the latest addition to their family, Gregory Paul Danehy, on May 30, 1997. Greg joins Alex, Stefanie, and Thomas. "Yes, four!" he writes. In 1997 he changed jobs, joining Citizens Bank as vice president of sales and service. He and his family live in Medway, Massachusetts. LAURA KIM HENDERSON and her husband, Rob, expanded their family with the arrival of Nicola Kim Henderson on October 15. The family lives in Boston, where Henderson works for BancBoston Securities as a director in their private placements group. STEPHEN V. KING writes: "In 1997 I cofounded Prairie Capital Mezzanine Fund L.P. with C. BRYAN DANIELS, 85. Prairie Capital is a $70 million, Chicago-based private equity fund making investments of $1 million to $4 million in domestic middle market companies." King previously was president of ANB Mezzanine Corporation, a subsidiary of First Chicago NBD. MITCHELL LEDERER has joined Arthur Andersen as area sales manager for the Knowledge Enterprises sales team. Knowledge Enterprises is an operating unit focusing on electronic commerce and interactive media business opportunities. Lederer was most recently area director for sales and management with Desktop Data, Inc. MICHAEL MCKAY is a partner at Bain and Company in Boston working in the private equity practice. "Things are very busy, given the active deal environment," he writes. He and his wife, JUDY, now have three children: Alison, 5; Sarah, 3; and Ian, 1. She stayed in the Washington, D.C., area until December 1997, when she moved back to Europe. "I am now living in Düsseldorf, Germany. Currently I am working to learn the language and get my business started," she writes. LAWRENCE NELL is working for Microsoft Travel Technologies in Germany. He married Claudia Reinhardt in February 1998. KAORU NISHIO recently moved back to Japan after four years in New York. In Tokyo he will serve as deputy general manager of the international credit department at Nippon Life Insurance Company. JOAQUIN PEREZ-TESSMER, A.B. 79, Ph.D. (Economics) 83, M.B.A. 88, was promoted to senior vice president of the emerging markets/foreign exchange division of ABN AMRO in Chicago. Previously he served as vice president of the division. DAVE PURICELLI writes: "I married Laura Merrick right after graduation and we have two boys, Jonathan, 3-1/2, and Alex, 2. I am now vice president and manager of Heartland Banks commercial and industrial lending group. I came on board in mid1997." SANFORD TASSEL recently joined Addison Wesley Longman, a global educational publisher, as vice president of planning and analysis. He lives in Sharon, Massachusetts, with his wife, Beth, and his two sons, Ethan and Drew. ANDY THORSON reports that after a dozen years in the cement industry, in 1996 he and a partner bought a small corporate finance boutique in Singapore focusing on Indonesian financing. Thorson and his wife, Patricia, welcomed their first baby, Jessica, last September. CRAIG WHEELER recently launched Avalon Project Partners, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in information system project management and communication services. He lives in Gurnee, Illinois. EDWARD WHITE joined Bear Stearns in October 1997 as associate director/research analyst in the high yield/bankruptcy trading department. The department specializes in trading debt and equity of distressed companies. He lives in New York City. 1989 MARJORIE W. DORR was named to the board of directors of IVANS Inc., an industry-owned technology services organization that provides electronic communications services and business solutions to the insurance and health care industries in the U.S. and Canada. Dorr is also president and CEO of Anthem Prescription Management in Mason, Ohio. DAVID EINOLF writes: "I have recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, as the manager of Dames & Moores Pacific Northwest compliance and operations practice. My wife, Becky, and children Allison, 7, and Davis, 4, have all readily adapted the Northwest lifestyle, which for me includes a view of Mount Adams out my office window. If the change in lifestyle wasnt enough, my first book, a manual for emergency response, was recently published by Government Institutes." KEITH TERRY and his wife, MICHELLE, 93, will celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary. They are expecting their third child in May. KIMBERLY TUNNEYs efforts to organize a professional womens squash tournament in Chicago earned her a place on the "Fifty Women in Sports" list in Windy City Sports magazine. Tunney also reports that she is the winner of the Dunlop Commitment to Excellence Award. |
