Goosbee and Lamont Awarded Sloan Fellowships
Associate professors Austan Goolsbee (left, top) and Owen Lamont have been selected to receive Alfred P. Sloan research fellowships. The
fellowships were created to provide crucial and flexible funds to outstanding researchers early in their careers, said Ralph Gomory, president of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Goolsbee and Lamont each will receive $40,000 in unrestricted
research funds. Goolsbee will
use his award to study the economics of Internet commerce and the role of government policy in
the information age, while Lamont will conduct
research in corporate diversification and the determination of stock market values.
Three other University of Chicago faculty members also received Sloan fellowships this spring:
Fernando Alvarez, professor in economics; Sean
Carroll, assistant professor in physics; and Milan Mrksich, assistant professor in chemistry.
