AT THE OFFICE of Alumni Affairs and Special Events, we have been busy improving existing programs, services, and events and introducing new ones.

The Office to Advance Career and Corporate Alliances (OACCA) has added the Forte Profile. This assessment tool helps you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your communication style and provides a wealth of additional information. It is available through OACCA (for GSB alumni only) for $45 for a series of three profiles. The same assessment costs $75 elsewhere. Completing a profile takes minutes and can be done online or by fax. I highly recommend it whether you are in a job search or want to be more effective in your current workplace.

The Midway Club will be open at the Gleacher Center this fall. I hope all of you stop by to see it on your next trip to Chicago. You should have received a day pass in the Midway Club brochure mailed this summer. If yours is missing, call us and we will send you a pass right away.

While you’re at Gleacher, visit Fisher Library. Electronic links such as OneSource are available to alumni, and Maura Barrett and her staff can assist you with the many electronic research tools available there. Call (312) 464-8730 to learn more.

If you aren’t using your Email4Life and haven’t given us a current email address, you may be missing out on important email announcements. Dean Hamada periodically invites alumni via email to join him to hear speakers at lunch or dinner events sponsored by organizations such as the Executives and Economics Clubs. Alumni chapters also are using email broadcasts to announce events. To activate your account or update your contact information, email jacinda.bauman@gsb.uchicago.edu. The same password that provides access to your email account also allows access to the Career Newsletter, which is now free to all alumni and available only online. You can use your password, too, to locate lost classmates on the GSB People Finder, the online alumni directory.

Watch for a new and better GSB Web page in late fall. We’re revamping our Web pages to allow easier navigation and to look better. If you haven’t visited in a while, check us out.

New alumni chapters
We welcome two new clubs: Kansas City and Cincinnati. To participate, contact John Styers, ’96, in Kansas City at (816) 545-0282 or jstyer1@hallmark.com, and Tom Barton, ’68, in Cincinnati at (513) 608-9448 or ceo@cinci.infi.net. They would love your help in getting these organizations off to a great start! For a complete list of clubs and contacts, see page 48.

Distinguished Alumni Awards
It is time to send in your nominations for the 2000 Distinguished Alumni Awards. The form is available on the facing page and on the GSB Web page at www.gsb.uchicago.edu/alumni.shtml. The three categories are Distinguished Corporate, Public Service, and Entrepreneurial Alumni. Please help us by bringing to our attention fellow alumni deserving of these awards. The 1999 awards were presented at the fourth annual Alumni Celebration on October 1. See page 22 for profiles of this year’s winners.

New alumni office staff
There are many new faces at the alumni office. In May, Jacinda Bauman took over Email4Life from Karen Holland. Cindy Andresen, who comes from the Field Museum in Chicago, joined us in July as the new associate director for chapter development. Scott Graham came aboard in August as manager of the new Midway Club. Most recently he managed the openings of Typhoon and Spruce restaurants in Chicago. Christina Cole, who was with the American Society of Healthcare Executives, joined us in September as associate director. Gloria Lis joined OACCA as associate director. Welcome to all! Check our Web page, www.gsb.uchicago.edu/alumni.shtml, for a complete listing of alumni office staff members and how to contact us individually. You may also call the alumni office main line at (773) 702-7727.
