1980

SHIGEO ICHIKAWA writes that after five years in the UK as managing director of Fuji Capital Markets (UK) LTD and Fuji International Finance PLC, he has returned to Japan to assume the position of general manager of corporate finance in the securities division of Fuji Bank Ltd. in Tokyo.

DOUGLAS N. SCHANTZ has accepted a position with KN Energy as senior vice president in charge of the commodity marketing division. The division markets and trades natural gas, natural gas liquids, and electricity. Schantz was previously with Tenneco Energy as vice president of gas gathering and processing. He is based in Houston.

RANDY SLOANhas become vice president of marketing and group operating executive at PolyMedics. He and his family have relocated from Short Hills, New Jersey, to Lexington, Massachusetts.

1981
PAUL CASTER was recently promoted to associate professor of accounting with tenure at Fairfield University.

KENT MAYNARD JR., A.B. ’78, M.B.A. ’81, writes: “Our first child, a son, Charles Elliott, was born almost two years ago on November 22. We are expecting another gift from God in September. Through the alchemy of ultrasound, we know this next child to be a girl, and are almost through negotiating the name for said girl-child. When not changing diapers or preparing mango smoothies for Charlie, I practice law and am currently working to expand our firm’s activities in Latin America.”

KEVIN C. MCGIRR has been named chief financial officer of Bardo and Associates, Inc., Chicago. The firm assists clients with the acquisition, maintenance, valuation, tax uses, and divestiture of art, antiques, and other valuable properties that can be taxable in an estate and an asset on a financial form.

RICHARD E. WALCK reports that he is president of Stranded Asset Restructuring and Management Association L.L.C., a Virginia-based firm providing financial consulting to the electric utility industry.

1982
ED LERNER writes that he has been named vice president of engineering at Fortner Research, a Sterling, Virginia, software company. Fortner Research builds client and server tools for the management, analysis, and visualization of scientific data. Lerner is responsible ofr product development and user support.

1983
GARY L. FEATHERINGHAM recently joined Applied Data Systems, Inc., of Columbia, Maryland, as vice president of marketing and sales. ADS is a technology company manufacturing single board computers for the embedded industrial market and specializes in flat panel displays.

MARGE WATERSTREET'S play, Familiar Faces, was performed at the Harold Clurman Theater in New York City this summer. The comedy is about a businesswoman who seeks affirmation on her life choices from grade school teachers and later recognizes that she has selected friends much like those old teachers.

1984
MITCHELL GRANT BLACK writes that he is senior vice president of marketing and business development for Wells Fargo Alarm Services. He and his wife DeAnne have three daughters: Lexine, 6; Carine, 2; and Marielle, 9 months.

MICHAEL KEANE reports that he recently returned from a year in Vietnam where he helped open two new offices for Citibank. He is now working for a regional investment bank in Los Angeles, the Seidler Companies Incorporated, where he heads the mergers and acquisitions group.

1985
MICHAEL BORISH, president of Michael Borish and Company, Inc., addressed the audience at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and Economic Development institute of the World Bank’s June conference, “Preventing Bank Crises: Lessons from Recent Global Bank Failures.” Borish discussed banking sector issues related to the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe. He also coauthored a paper for the conference.

SHEKHAR CHITNIS will be leaving Ford Motor Company upon the completion of a four-year assignment as director of marketing. Chitnis will be joining Amorphous Technologies International, a small start-up in Orange County, as chief financial and operating officer

ELISA S. DEFTEROS joined Lehman Brothers Private Client Services in London as an investment representative. Deftereos will be responsible for business development in Greece, advising high-net-worth individuals and midsized institutions on their worldwide investments. Deftereos came to Lehman Brothers from ABN Amro Bank with more than five years experience in private banking and shipping finance.

JOYCE V. GAB KNEELAND was promoted in January to senior vice president of operations at United States Cellular Corporation in Chicago. She is responsible for sales and operations nationwide.

Carol Meylan and Bob Kelly, a partner in Sanford Bernstein and Company’s Chicago office, announce the birth of their son, Gavin Charles Meylan Kelly, born May 13, 1997. Gavin joins sisters Erin, 7, and Courtney, 4.

STEVEN MOTT writes that he has been working for several years as a freelance writer.

1986
CREG OSTLER and a partner formed Private Wealth Management Inc. with offices in Chicago and Mesa, Arizona. The company provides financial planning and investment management to a select group of clients. Writes Ostler: “It has been fun to apply the investment concepts I learned at the GSB, plus the latest research by faculty members, on behalf of my clients.” Previously Oster was vice president and senior portfolio manager at Harris Bank in Chicago.

1987
DEBBIE STEIGER RIEDY and JIM REIDY are trading in their snow shoes for sunblock. They are moving to Singapore, where Jim will be finance director for Asia Pacific Operations of Delphi Automotive Systems, General Motors. Jim has been assistant finance director at Delphi Harrison Thermal Systems in Lockport, New York. Debbie recently resigned from IBM after 15 years of service. She is now busy helping their daughter Kelley, 5, and son Tommy, 18 months, make the big move. Jim and Debbie have begun making contact with some friends who have already migrated to the region. KEITH M. BRESLAUER Lehman Brothers, where he was co-head of the international mortgage and real estate business,to form a new company, Capstar. Capstar will be the exclusive originator for investment opportunities in Western and Eastern Europe for the Dallas-based Lone Star Opportunity Fund. Lone Star specializes in mortgage and real estate investments. Breslaurer and his wife, Lauren, were expecting the birth of their second child in September . They continue to live in London.

GAVIN GROSS has joined Koch Metals Trading Ltd. in London as head of options trading. The company provides hedging services in base metals to producers, end-users, and money managers. He can be reached at gross2g@kochind.com.

BRIEN DAVID JOHNSON, his wife, Lauri, and children, Mark, 10, Elizabeth, 7, and Kelly, 5, recently relocated to Cary, North Carolina. He has taken a position as director of operations and advance services with Bespak, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of drug delivery devices.

LYLE LOGAN was promoted to senior vice president of portfolio management and investment administration at Bank of America Illinois, Crain’s Chicago Business reported in May. He formerly was managing director.

LOUISE PARK STEJBACH and her husband, Mark, announce the arrival of their first child–a daughter, Emma, born March 25, 1997. The Stejbachs reside in the greater Philadelphia area where they work for Merck & Co., Inc.

KEITH D. TERRY has joined PathoGenesis Corp. as director of international market development. Terry will be based in the company’s Skokie, Illinois, office. He previously was a senior product manager for Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago.
