CHARLOTTE SIBLEY, senior director of business research at Bristol-Myers
Squibb Company, writes that she is building the foundation for
a GSB women dynasty. She hired Lynn Stagon, 88; Stagon hired
Katherine Kovacs, 89. We now occupy three tiers of management
at Bristol-Myers Squibb. She also writes that she recently hired
a college alumna, Ruth Mintz, (A.B. anthropology, 87).
1971
MARY K. BUSH was elected a director of Texaco, Inc. Bush is president
of Bush & Co., a financial consulting firm, and is Texacos second
African American director. She also was named to the boards of
trustees for each of the Pioneer Mutal Funds.
JOHN ASTELL IRICK writes that his daughter, Alyssa, is attending
the college and will graduate with the class of 2000.
Success in the financial industry runs in the Purcell family.
Many people are familiar with PHILIP PURCELL, 67, chairman and
CEO of Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter and Discover Co. But a recent
feature in Crains Chicago Business put younger brother Paul Purcell
in the spotlight for his achievements as chief operating officer
of Robert W. Baird & Co. Facing the pressures of a consolidating
financial services industry, Paul has increased Bairds staff,
formed a strategic alliance with First Chicago NBD Corp., and
worked to broaden the firms reach beyond the Midwest.
1972
PAUL-EMILE DIEUDONNE is now self-employed and specializes in investing
in the stock market of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Its a totally unknown
market for the time being, but very promising, he writes.
After 10 years in banking, MICHAEL FOLEY joined his familys 91-year-old
fish company, M.F. Foley Co. of New Bedford, Massachusetts. in
1982. Foleys company was featured in a recent Boston Globe article
for its unusual loyalty to local species of fish despite dwindling
stocks, increased competition, and tightening industry regulations.
1973
SAM YAU was profiled in the May 14 Los Angeles Times. The article
detailed Yaus strategy in leading the revival of National Education
Corp. Yau was instrumental in repositioning the training and education
company prior to its recent acquisition by Harcourt General.
1974
STANLEY NOLLEN will spend the fall in India on a Fulbright research
award while on sabbatical from Georgetown University School of
Business.
1975
ROBERT FINKEL was named vice president of finance for CBS Enterprises
in Los Angeles. This division handles the networks domestic and
international syndication activities.
ROBERT K. HALL II reports that he has taken on a new job as senior
vice president of operations at Norcross Safety Products. Norcross
is a manufacturer of protective rubber footwear in Rock Island,
Illinois.
1976
JOHN M. SERGEY has been named president, chief executive officer,
and director of Strategic Distribution, Inc. This publicly traded
company is a leading provider of industrial supply services to
commercial and industrial customers. Strategic Distribution is
not a subsidiary of GAF Corporation as reported in the Summer
1997 issue of GSB Chicago.
ARVIND SINGH, president of Dehli Capital Management, is now teaching
international finance at the University of Arizona. He writes
that he enjoys consulting in the Southwest, writing articles for
financial magazines, and working as an instructor for executive
education courses.
1977
DONNA KANE DUFNER received a Ph.D. in management from Rutgers
University in June 1995 and joined the faculty of the University
of Illinois at Springfield in August 1996.
RICHARD M. LEVICH, A.B. 71, M.B.A. 71, Ph.D. 77, reports that
his first textbook, International Financial Markets: Prices and
Policies, was published this summer by Irwin/McGraw Hill.
LAWRENCE J. MARCZAK reports that he is working as manager of corporate
finance North Asia for Chase Manhattan Bank Global Trade Finance
and Advisory . He is based in Hong Kong.
JEFFREY NICK heads up Lincoln National Investment Companies in
Philadelphia. LNIC includes Delaware Management Holdings, Inc.,
and the New York investment firms of Lynch & Mayer and Vantage
Global Advisors.
RAVI V. PATEL writes that he helped start a new company called
Inflight ATI, Inc. Inflight ATI is developing an ATM terminal
for use on board long-range aircraft that will, among other services,
provide currency of the destination country with input of cash
or credit cards.
1978
NANCY BRONSTEIN KAPLAN writes that after leaving the option pits
at the Chicago Board of Trade in 1989, she spent time raising
her two children, working on a Ph.D., and teaching college. In
February she accepted the position of director of technology marketing
for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Her children are Alyson Boim,
20, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ben
Kaplan, 10. Classmates may remember Alyson, who was born while
her mother was studying at the GSB.
MICHAEL A. FITZPATRICK was named vice president of finance and
administration and chief financial officer at Terrapin Technologies,
a privately held drug discovery company in San Francisco. He previouslyworked
as a consultant to RPR-Gencell, the biotechnology division of
Rhone-Poulenc Rorer.
ROGER MATUS was appointed vice president of North American marketing
for Dragon Systems, Inc., of Newton, Massachusetts. Prior to this
appointment, Matus was director of product marketing for ATI Technologies,
Inc.
ANTHONY P. MAYO recently was featured on the cover of the business section of
the Washington Times and in the Small Business News. The articles
featured his course, Vitality,Service, and Outstanding Performance,

1979
JAMES M. ERLICK reports that he has made an entrepreneurial career
move to an entertainment sponsorship broker. After more than 14
years as a senior marketing executive with experience at American
Express, General Foods and the Seagram Wine Company, Erlick in
1993 began focusing his consultancy practice on conceiving new
business partnerships, particularly in entertainment. He conceived
and executed the first national tour sponsorships for Andrew Lloyd
Webbers Sunset Boulevard with TWA and MasterCard. He also orchestrated
the Ladies of Note breast cancer benefit tour featuring Judy Collins
and Roberta Flack. Other clients include HBO, MovieFone, and the
League of American Theatres & Producers.
MARSHALL T. JONES was named vice president of information technology
at Amoco Corporation in July. He joined Amoco as general manager
of information technology service delivery in May 1996, and previously
managed information technology at McDonalds Corporation.
DENNIS MALAMATINAS reports that he was appointed chief executive
officer of Burger King Corporation last spring. He has worked
for International Distillers and Vinters (IDV), the worlds largest
spirits and wines company, since 1989.
BARRY L. ZUBROW, M.B.A. 79, J.D. 80, was named Distinguished
Alumnus of Friends Central School in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania,
for his outstanding achievements in the field of business. |
