George Conrades, XP-28 ('71), and Philip Purcell, '67, were mentioned in the May 1 issue of Red Herring. The publicatation noted their positions as CEOs of two of the top 50 public companies that are "important not only based on their massive sales revenue and industry influence (or ability to weather poor earnings and layoffs), but also for their capacity to move like nimble start-ups, developing new technologies and entering new markets, with a sense of urgency." Purcell is chairman and CEO of Morgan Stanley, and Conrades is CEO of Akamai Technologies.

Ralph F. Hake, '75, was named chairman and CEO of Maytag, the June 20 New York Times reported. A Whirlpool executive for 12 years, Hake most recently was executive vice president and chief financial officer at Fluor.

Michael Klingensmith, A.B. '75, M.B.A. '76, was featured in a June 26 Wall Street Journal article about the reshuffling of management duties at Time, following the retirement of three top executives. Klingensmith, currently president of Sports Illustrated, now will oversee American Express Publishing, Entertainment Weekly, and Time's law department and will retain his post at Sports Illustrated. Judy Boynton, '78, has been appointed chief financial officer of Royal Dutch Shell, headquartered in London. A May 4 article in Financial Times reported that she gave up her job as chief financial officer of Polaroid to look for new opportunities. After graduating from the GSB, Boynton joined Amoco as an analyst, eventually rising to vice president and controller in 1996. A story on her Shell appointment also appeared in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Richard Taylor, '79, was appointed vice president of finance and administration for CellGate, a privately held pharmaceutical company in Sunnyvale, California. Asia Pulse carried the news of his new position.

David W. Sanchez, '85, has been named chief financial officer of McCain Foods. This appointment was noted in Toronto's Globe and Mail. Sanchez previously was vice president of supply chains with McCain Foods U.S.A. --E.H.
