1980

ARNOLD DONALD was named senior vice president for external purposes at Monsanto. Donald, who previously served as copresident of the agricultural sector, will now focus on three priority areas: helping lead global pharmaceutical launches, corporate globalization, and information technology. Donald and his wife, Hazel, live in Town & Country, Missouri, with their three children.

JAMES P. GREGORICH retired from Navistar after 16 years “to lead a simpler and more meaningful life. I am raising our two children, Christian, 2, and Genevieve, 1.” Gregorich and his family live in Manhattan, Montana.

JOACHIM KLEIN writes that he is now working for an English-American company Lucas VARITY, maker of light vehicle braking systems, as finance manager of the technology center in Germany.

JOHN STUDZINSKI, head of Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter, Discover & Co.’s investment banking operations in Europe, was profiled in the October 27 Business Week in a special report on “finance stars.” Since arriving at Morgan Stanley’s London office 13 years ago, the article reported, Studzinski has earned the trust of many European CEOs and has been instrumental in propelling Morgan to “the top of the heap.” The firm had advised on 71 deals worth $83 billion in the first three quarters of 1997.

DANE TYSON has been appointed president and chief executive officer for the Americas with White Cap, Inc. Headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois, the firm is the world’s leading producer of vacuum closures and related equipment and services for the food and beverage industry.

JEFFREY WEITZEN was elected director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for a two-year term. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation, representing American businesses in matters before Congress, federal government agencies, and the White House. Weitzen is executive vice president of AT&T.

GARY PRYOR joined Golden Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as vice president of finance. Previously Pryor has held senior financial positions within the health care industry.

JANET M. TAVAKOLI has written a book, Credit Derivatives: Instruments and Applications. It is published by John Wiley & Sons and will be available in June 1998.

SUNIL SUBBAKRISHNA writes: “Our second child, Maya, was born on November 26, 1997. Her big brother, Salil, 9, can’t wait to take her for show and tell in his third grade class.”

1982

BRAD L. PETERSON was named partner at the law firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt specializing in corporate/information technology. He lives in Chicago.

1983

LISA PAGE HARDING writes that she changed jobs–this time within Connecticut–and is now a supply manager with Pfizer-Central Research. Along with the job change, she moved to a new home that is less than two miles from the beach. “Visitors are welcome,” she writes.

DOUG REES and his wife, Sally, welcomed the arrival of their son, John William, born on October 11, 1997.

1984

ELEANOR K. H. BLAYNEY was selected as one of the country’s best financial advisors by Worth magazine. Blayney is a principal of Sullivan, Bruyette, Speros & Blayney, Inc.,The McLean, Virginia, firm specializes in financial planning, investment management, and tax preparation services.

GLENN E. GOTTFRIED was recently appointed to the Board of Advisors for the College of Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Vermont. In June 1997, he transferred from Thomson Electronic Settlements Group of Boston to Thomson Financial Publishing, Skokie, Illinois. He is now vice president of the funds transfer and compliance solutions group there. He and his wife, Gayle, and children, Gavin, 9, Garrett, 7, and Gabrielle, 3, live in Glenview.

MAUREEN KELLY joined Datacolor International of Charlotte, North Carolina, as marketing manager for the Americas in December. Datacolor is a global provider of high-tech color management solutions for printing, textiles, and other applications.

MIGUEL A. LOPEZ-BEN transferred from Boca Raton, Florida, to Rio de Janeiro in August to become chief financial officer of IBM Brazil.

1985

RUSSELL MILES BOSTICK joined Corporate Software and Technology as chief technology officer. He is responsible for information technology, process reengineering, and electronic commerce for this global software reseller.

ARTHUR P. HALL was promoted to managing director of asset and financial services at Cushman & Wakefield in Chicago. Previously Hall served as midwest senior portfolio manager. Hall lives in Barrington, Illinois, with his wife and twin daughters.

A. CRAIG MACKINLAY'S recent book, The Econometrics of Financial Markets, won the Paul A. Samuelon Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security. MacKinlay, who is Joseph P. Wargrove Professor of Finance at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, shares the award with coauthors John Y. Campbell of Harvard and Andrew W. Lo of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The award selection committee found that the book offered money managers a practical tool for shaping investment strategies. The Samuelson Award is presented annually to receognize outstanding scholarly writing on issues related to lifelong financial security. The award is sponsored by Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association-College Retirement Equities Fund.

1986

SHELLEY R. MACKIE and her two children are living in Clarkston, Michigan. Since her recent divorce, she reports, she is spending her time raising her children and managing her personal investments.

VIRGINIA A. MAYCOCK and STUART M. GOLDBERG announce the birth of their second son, Max Elliot Goldberg, on July 14. He joins brother Steven Johnston Goldberg, 2.

1987

ARNOLD DOUVILLE joined American Century Investments in Kansas City as vice president and portfolio manager of the American Century Twentieth Vista Fund. Previously he was senior portfolio manager for Munder Capital Management.

DEBORAH PRIGAL has temporarily left the working world to earn a master’s degree in operations research at Georgia Institute of Technology.

SUMNER SAEKS joined Silverman Korenthal & Company, a north suburban-Chicago based turnaround consulting firm, as partner. Previously, Saeks served as senior vice president of Alliance Capital Group. He lives in Highland Park with his wife, Pam, and their two children.

1988

PAUL DANEHY and his wife, Diane, welcomed the latest addition to their family, Gregory Paul, on May 30, 1997. Gregory joins Alex, Stefanie, and Thomas in the growing Danehy family. Danehy writes that in 1997 he joined Citizens Bank as vice president of sales and service.

WINTON GIBBONS and his wife, MARITZA, ’89, have returned to Chicago. Winton is an equity analyst with William Blair, and Maritza is a director of corporate strategy with Ameritech. They are enjoying showing their daughter, Elizabeth, the city.

ROGER P. HICKEY writes that he founded Chicago Parnters L.L.C. in 1994 with former professors from the GSB. The firm consults in economics, accounting, finance, and technology matters. He and his wife, Mary Sheehy, have three children: Irene, Michael, and Sara.

MITCHELL LEDERER recently joined Arthur Andersen as area sales manager for the Knowledge Enterprises sales team. Knowledge Enterprises is a unit that focuses on electronic commerce and interactive media business opportunities.

CHRISTOPHER MOLUMPHY discussed his investment philosophy in the August 11 issue of Bond Week. Molumphy is senior portfolio manager at the Franklin Templeton Group and is comanager of the $3 billion Franklin AGE High Income Fund.

BRENT PACKER writes that he is building a walk-in medical clinic business in Jackson, Tennessee, using all his skills as an M.D., M.B.A., and C.P.A. Limited corporate shares finance the business.

NEAL RINGQUIST was promoted to senior vice president and manager of investment services for Wells Fargo. He lives in LaFayette, California.

RANDALL SCOTT SHAFER writes that he is moving to Nicosia, Cyprus, to be general manager of GeoPump Overseas Limited. GeoPump is the majority shareholder in Russian Joint Venture ZAO OilPump. OilPump repairs, sells, and rents electric submersible pumps for oil production and is located in Kogalym, Western Siberia.

W. THOMAS WHITE was named an associate partner at Andersen Consulting. White joined the firm in 1995 and specializes in organizational design and strategy. He lives in Chicago with his three children.

1989

ERIC C. BANFIELD was recently appointed second vice president for risk measurement in the treasury department of the Northern Trust Company in Chicago. He specializes in valuation, balance sheet simulation, and risk reporting for derivative securities.

STEPHEN CUMMINGS became president of Marquette Associates in June. The Chicago-based consulting firm provides a full range of investment services to defined benefit plans and other clients.

CLARK M. MERKLEY was promoted to senior vice president of health alliances at Time Insurance/Fortis in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Merkley is responsible for healthcare network arrangements and other business alliances with medical providers and managed care operations.

LUIS MIRANDA and his wife, Fiona Dias-Miranda, had a son, Khashiff Kristoff Miranda, on September 21 (also Luis’s birthday). “Fiona and the kid are doing fine,” Miranda writes, “and daughter Mihika is very excited with her brother.” The family lives in India, where Miranda works for HDFC Bank Ltd.

BONNIE MARK MONAHAN and her husband, Bob, welcomed their second child, Colin, in August 1996. “Colin and his big brother, Michael, are keeping us all quite busy,” she writes. Monahan is assistant treasurer at Reader’s Digest. The family lives in Riverside, Connecticut.

DIANA L. NAPIER joined Public Service Enterprise Group of Newark, New Jersey, as vice president for enterprise corporate development. She is responsible for the evaluation and execution of mergers and acquisitions for both the regulated and unregulated business of Enterprise, a publicly-traded diversified energy and energy services company.
