The Kilts Center’s inaugural Fall Premiere coupled with the Kilts Speaker Series featured more than a dozen senior executives from companies like Frito-Lay, Kraft, Reckitt-Benckiser, Redbox and Sears Holdings, who shared their experiences and cutting-edge practices.
Fall Premiere In a total of 12 events, 35 alumni participated as guest speakers, and more than 350 Full-Time, Evening, and Weekend students attended Fall Premiere. Students heard from experts regarding the importance of the Chicago Booth approach of integrative and data-driven marketing.
The keynote speaker was James M. Kilts, ’74, founder of the Kilts Center and Centerview Capital. Kilts emphasized a key message about marketing at Chicago Booth: "Marketing is the hub of the wheel - the center of the business that provides an opportunity to integrate all functions in an organization and drive marketplace value." Kilts also shared his vast experience building iconic brands, and the four overriding principles on which he drew his success.

Kilts Center Speaker Series
The Kilts Center Speaker Series continued this year, featuring Gary Cohen, ’88, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience at Redbox; Robert Mariano, '87 (XP-56), chairman of the board, president, and CEO of Roundy’s; and Ann Mukherjee, AB '87, MBA '94, senior vice president and CMO of Frito-Lay North America. For this coming year, plans are in place to expand the series to feature international speakers, starting with Frits Seegers, '89, CEO of CT Corporation System.
Ann Mukherjee, AB '87, MBA '94, spoke to students about the continuous reinvention of marketing, recent strategic shifts in the industry, and her perspective on where it will go from here. Mukherjee highlighted some of Frito- Lay's well-known successes with Doritos "Crash the Super Bowl," an excellent example of successful marketing through social media, as well as the repositioning of Lays Potato Chips.
Gary Cohen, '88, told the story of how Redbox started as a venture inside McDonald's and grew into a company currently renting 1.5 billion movies annually without relying on traditional advertising. Cohen shared Redbox's multichannel approach and strategies for great customer experience
