ABOUT US

Innovation Workshop Series

The Innovation Workshop Series, developed by the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at Chicago Booth and the Office of Technology and Intellectual Property (UChicagoTech), was created for University of Chicago researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, investors and friends to educate, network, and facilitate the best practices for commercializing the university's technology and invention.

The Innovation Workshop Series was made possible by an initial gift from ARCH Venture Partners to the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship to help foster an entrepreneurial community for the University of Chicago at large. ARCH Venture Partners is a leader in the successful commercialization of technologies developed at academic research institutions and national laboratories.

The ARCH Venture Partners Innovation Workshop Series is a vehicle for the University of Chicago researchers and innovators to educate, network, and facilitate best practices for commercializing the university technology and innovation.

Thanks to the generous support of ARCH Venture Partners, the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at Chicago Booth - in partnership with UChicago Tech - has developed a series of workshops with guest speakers who have expertise and special knowledge in topics specific to commercializing innovation.

Topics of Interest

  • Surveys of best practices in university research commercialization
  • Discovering commercialization applications
  • Building a team and network for advancing information
  • Prototyping (i.e., medical devices)
  • Understanding the patent process
  • Identifying market potential
  • Understanding business creation and venture mechanics
  • Determining funding options (i.e., NIH, SBIR, foundations, venture)

Who Should Attend

The workshops bring together a mixed audience of faculty, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors associated with the University of Chicago at large. We especially encourage individuals from the Physical Science and Biological Sciences Divisions, the Department of Computer Science, the medical school, and Chicago Booth alumni and friends to attend.

"Our goal for this series is to create a new collaboration of faculty, researchers, students, and alumni to build a successful entrepreneurial ecosystem on campus and across the city."

Ellen Rudnick
Executive Director, Polsky Center

"With this Innovation Workshop Series, we are enhancing the commercial potential of the university's innovations by fostering increased interactions between scientific discovery, market need, and entrepreneurial energy."

Alan Thomas
Director, UChicagoTech
