Unlocking the Spending Power of China’s Middle Class

Randall S. Kroszner, Norman R. Bobins Professor of Economics, Chicago Booth

Join us for an evening with Professor Kroszner as he presents his views on "Unlocking the Spending Power of China's Middle Class."

Moving from economic growth driven primarily by investment and exports to consumption-led growth is perhaps the greatest challenge facing China today. A crucial but often overlooked element necessary for this transition is fundamental reform of the banking system. Professor Kroszner will offer his assessment of the current state of the global economy, as well as his views on how China can encourage middle class consumption and rebalance the elements of economic growth.
