The Future of Basketball in China
The Chinese National Basketball Team with NBA stars Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian will be center stage in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. But after the Olympics, what does the future hold in store for basketball in China?
The newly founded NBA China, a $2.3 billion subsidiary of the National Basketball Association, will no doubt play a major role. The Chinese Basketball Association will continue to be at the center of the action, facing new challenges and moving forward on new initiatives. And of course all that goes on will be under the watchful eye of FIBA, the Federation of International Basketball.
Come hear Mr. Li Yuanwei,Secretary General of Chinese Basketball Association, Patrick Baumann '01, Member of IOC and Secretary General of FIBA, and Timothy Chen '91, CEO of NBA China, and Mr. Xu Jichen, Director of Beijing Olympic Media Center and Xinhua News Agency, give their thoughts on the future of Chinese basketball in a panel discussion moderated by John Huizinga, Walter David "Bud" Fackler Distinguished Service Professor of Economics. Our panelists will share their insights, identify what key factors will determine the future success or failure of basketball in China, and answer questions from the audience. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from the people who will do so much to shape how Chinese basketball unfolds in the coming decade. Simultaneous translation will be available.
