David Dawson, Class of 2014

Undergraduate School/Major:  I received my undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Nottingham.

Prior to Booth: Prior to Booth, I spent three and a half years at KPMG and two and a half years at Apax Partners, a global private equity firm in London.

Concentrations: Finance and Strategic Management.

Activities: Member of the European Business Group, Private Equity Group, Credit Restructuring Distressed Investing, and Turnaround Group and the Ski Club.

Career plans:  I plan to intern in London or Chicago at a private equity firm this summer.

Why did you choose Chicago Booth? I chose to apply to school in the US rather than in Europe as I felt the MBA was far more developed and the quality of the schools and programs was higher in the US. I enjoyed living in London and wanted to continue to live in a big city during my MBA as I feel it adds a lot to the experience culturally, really experiencing living in the USA. Booth was a clear winner for many reasons. The people I met were great - smart, down-to-earth, funny, and sociable. The facilities were amazing, and I just loved the city of Chicago itself. I left London with a different school ranked No. 1 in my mind every five minutes, but on the flight home I couldn't have been more certain. Even better, since being here I've realized two things that I was aware of during admissions but probably didn't fully appreciate. The flexible curriculum is truly a massive benefit, and the Careers Services team is incredible as well. You should certainly factor these into your decision even if you don't see them as core now - you will when you get here!

Use three adjectives to describe your experience at Chicago Booth: Stimulating, sociable, and eye-opening.

What do you consider a "must visit" place or "must-do" activity in Chicago? Go and play cornhole at Lizzie McNeill's on the river by River Esplanada Park. The owner holds little tournaments periodically and often just leaves boxes and beanbags outside the front of the bar to play with. It's a great setting, a beer garden right by the river with views up to the Trump Tower and the Loop. Great fun for a sunny day.

Ask me about...: Careers in private equity, recruiting in London, the Booth network, and living in downtown Chicago.

Hugh Gibbons, Class of 2014

Undergraduate School/Major: I attended Trinity College Dublin, Johannes Kepler University Austria, and UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, majoring in law and German.

Prior to Booth: I worked in finance.

Concentrations: Accounting, Finance, and Strategic Management.

Activities:  Member of the Investment Banking Group, European Business Group, Private Equity Group, Distressed Debt and Credit Group, and the Soccer Club.

Career plans: I am recruiting for investment banking.

Why did you choose Chicago Booth? The reasons are many: the flexible curriculum, as I have masters in finance already and I wanted to challenge myself with more advanced and interesting courses from the first semester and Booth allowed me the opportunity to do this; the globally recognized brand as a leading school in finance; the enthusiasm and passion of the students for Booth when I visited the school; the support and encouragement by the Admissions Office, alumni, and students throughout my application process; and because Chicago is a great city.

Use three adjectives to describe your experience at Chicago Booth:Exciting, exhilarating, and educational.

What do you consider a "must visit" place or "must do" activity in Chicago? The Chicago marathon is a "must do" activity. Obviously, you have to like running for it to be a "must do" though! The course itself is spectacular; the atmosphere around the city amazing; and the Sunday night after the race in the city sensational!

Ask me about...: Being an international student at Booth; living in the US as a European; careers in finance, investment banking, and recruiting; why I choose Chicago Booth; why I love Booth and Chicago; working in Dublin, London, New York, Vienna, and Cajamarca (Peru); the application process; which classes to take; Gaelic Football, Ireland, or Tottenham Hotspurs.

Julian Gil, Class of 2014

Undergraduate School/Major: I obtained my degree from University of California, Santa Barbara in linguistics.

Prior to Booth: I worked for nearly five years for Kroll in Dubai, London, and Madrid.

Concentrations: Economics and Finance.

Activities: I'm a member of the Emerging Markets Group, Sales and Trading Group, Soccer Club, Dean's Student Admissions Committee, and the Middle East North Africa Club.

Career plans: I will be using the summer internship to do something completely different!

Why did you choose Chicago Booth? As a kid, whenever I had questions about the stock market or the economy, I'd regularly be pointed towards a major paradigm that, as things happen, was developed at the University of Chicago. When all roads point to here, it's got to be for a reason, and I always knew I wanted to come here. What I found upon closer research is that the school has taken its expertise in economics and analytics to carve out its own identity in entrepreneurship and marketing. It's not as common these days to find an institution that is true to its history, so it's a pleasure to be at one.

Use three adjectives to describe your experience at Chicago Booth: Intense, fulfilling, and liberating

What do you consider a "must visit" place or "must do" activity in Chicago? Figuring out where scenes of major films were shot - particularly Chicago as Christopher Nolan's Gotham!

Ask me about...: The case for being a student in the city of Chicago as opposed to other major metropolises, especially if you're targeting a career in finance and the resulting financial centers.

Sabrine Waismann, Class of 2013

Career plans::  I am recruiting for investment banking.

Why did you choose Chicago Booth? Booth was the best business school to challenge and shape my long-term goals, offering me a culture of original thought, an inter-disciplinary approach to learning and a uniquely flexible curriculum.  It has been an amazing opportunity to learn with such smart and caring classmates, professors, and university staff. Starting from the day I received a call extending my admissions offer, Booth has supported me in more ways than I could have asked for.

What do you consider a "must visit" place or "must-do" activity in Chicago? Running by the lake at sunrise.

Ask me about...: My favorite Booth experience.
