Nupur Bhargava, Class of 2013

Nupur Bhargavanupur.bhargava@ChicagoBooth.edu

Undergraduate School/Major: I received my degree from Singapore Management University and majored in economics and marketing.

Prior to Booth: I spent four years at UBS AG in Singapore; about two years on the rotational leadership program, one year in marketing and one year doing corporate strategy. I was  a rotational program spokesperson for UBS and was actively engaged in undergraduate recruiting.

Activities: Member of the Dean's Student Admissions Committee (DSAC), Management Consulting Group, Corporate Strategy and Management Group, Chicago Women in Business, Net Impact, the Booth Asia Pacific Group and the Latin American Business Group.

Summer internship plans: I am recruiting for consulting.

Why did you choose to attend Chicago Booth? I chose to come to Booth for three main reasons. One is the flexible curriculum, because with a background in economics and busines, I did not want to take the standard classes that I would need to at most other schools. Booth has given me the flexibility to pick different levels of even the foundation classes. I really feel like I'm getting the quality education that I expected out of a top MBA program.  Second, the people are great!  I met a number of Booth students when I visited the campus and was blown away by how friendly, candid and personable they were. As a first year, my impression has been confirmed and I've been impressed not just by how friendly my classmates are but also how impressive their backgrounds are. Finally career support - as a career switcher, the school's Career Services team and level of support provided was extremely important to me. Booth's reputation of having one of the best Career Services teams was another major factor for my choosing Booth.

What do you consider a "must visit" place in Chicago? Visit the Art Institute of Chicago - they have an amazing collection of Renoir. Definitely do the architecture boat tour and walk the streets around the Loop. Chicago is a beautiful city and you get a great vibe by just walking the streets.

Ask me about...: Recruiting for consulting, career switching, living in Asia.

Undergraduate School/Major: I received a degree from National University of Singapore and majored in electrical engineering.

Prior to Booth: I was an equity analyst for the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (NY, USA) and retail operations manager  for Doris Vinci (Shanghai, China).

Activities: Member of the Chicago Asia Pacific Group, the Investment Management Group and the Emerging Markets Group.

Summer internship plans: I am looking to get into either entrepreneurship or investment management.

Why did you choose to attend Chicago Booth?  I have diverse career interests spanning the finance, consumer, and social sectors. Booth's flexible curriculum and strengths in both entrepreneurship and finance allow me to develop my cross-sector interests with minimal trade offs. Success in post-MBA career recruitment critically depends on the reputation of the business school one attends, and this is particularly true in Asia. Therefore, I chose to attend Booth because of its world-leading reputation and strong recognition in Asia, due in part to its Singapore campus.  Lastly, I believe it is important to enjoy one's MBA experience. Attending Admit Weekend allowed me to get a glimpse into the Booth culture and meet future classmates - the pleasant environment and warm people here at Booth convinced me that I will enjoy learning and working alongside these members of the Booth community.

What do you consider a "must visit" place in Chicago? Enjoying the spectacular sights and unique architectural features, from the Wrigley Building to Loop bridges, is a definite must-do.

Ask me about...: Why Booth deserves its top positions in the global MBA rankings!
