Financing Your MBA

Chicago Booth is committed to assisting all admitted students in financing their MBA, regardless of citizenship. Financing is available for all admitted students in the form of student loans and merit-based scholarships and fellowships only. Chicago Booth does not offer need-based financial aid.

Loans are calculated based on a standardized cost of attendance including room and board, books and other expenses for three academic quarters (nine months).

U.S. Citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents

There are four loan programs available to U.S. citizen and U.S. permanent resident full-time MBA students.

  • Federal Direct Stafford Student Loan - The Federal Direct Stafford loan is available to U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents who enroll in two or more courses each quarter.
  • Federal Perkins Loan - The Federal Perkins loan is limited to full-time second-year campus students only.
  • Federal Direct GradPLUS loan - Graduate/professional students can apply for the Federal Direct GradPLUS loan. The Federal Direct GradPLUS loan is a credit-based loan and is subject to the same rules and regulations as all other federal financial aid programs. The Federal Direct GradPLUS loan is used in place of the private alternative loan.
  • Private, credit-based alternative loans - All students can apply for a private, credit-based alternative loan. Students can borrow up to the cost of attendance (which is set by the financial aid office) minus any other financial assistance. The private alternative loan is used in place of the Federal Direct GradPLUS loan.

International Students

Chicago Booth is committed to providing financing opportunities for all students regardless of their citizenship and has loan programs available for students without U.S. co-signers. More specific information regarding these programs will be made available via the admitted students website upon admission to the program.
