English Language Exams
All international students whose native language is not English must take either the TOEFL or IELTS exam unless they:
- earned an undergraduate degree or post-graduate degree from an institution in which English is the language of instruction
- are a citizen or permanent resident of a country where English is an official language
Applicants should note the exemption where indicated in the application.
Scores
TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years. Booth's TOEFL test code is 1832-02. Please use this code to have results sent to Chicago Booth.
- Expired scores - Your score will be considered expired if the test was taken more than two years prior to submission of your application. If your score has expired, you must retake the examination and submit the official scores before the application deadline.
- Required score - See chart. For TOEFL, the minimum score will differ depending on whether you took the computer, Internet-based or paper test. Applicants who score below the minimums may still apply, but admission would be contingent upon meeting the minimum scores or other language requirements.
