Richard P. Strubel’s career spans a variety of business models and industries including numerous corporate board memberships, serving as CEO of a major industrial company, participating in an on-line education start-up, and completing one of the largest LBOs of its time. He currently serves as a trustee of the institutional and retail mutual funds managed by Goldman Sachs & Co, and chairs the Northern Trust Funds board of trustees. He recently retired as a director of Gildan Activewear, Inc.
Among Strubel’s various positions he was vice chairman and a member of the board of directors of Cardean Learning Group and was president and COO of its predecessor company, Unext. Prior to that he was president and CEO of Microdot Inc., a manufacturer of aircraft and automotive fastening systems, electrical connectors, sealing devices, and ingot molds. He was also President of Northwest Industries, a NYSE company with sales in excess of $3 billion whose principal operating companies included Coca-Cola of Los Angeles, Lone Star Steel, and Union Underwear. He began his career as a managing principal for Fry Consultants. He received a Master’s degree from the Graduate School of Business Administration at Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from Williams College.
Strubel is a trustee emeritus of the University of Chicago where he chaired the Audit and Financial Planning Committees and served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of its Medical Center. He was also vice chairman of Children’s Memorial Medical Center and a member of the board of directors for the Chicago Better Government Association.
