Ronald L. Goettler

Assistant Professor of Marketing

Ronald Goettler studies industrial organization, microeconomics, consumer behavior and learning, applied econometrics, computational methods, market microstructure, and the entertainment industries. Prior to joining Chicago Booth in 2008, he was associate professor at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, where he taught for nearly a decade. In 2003, he received an Excellence in Teaching Award for his work at the university.

Goettler's published works include "Cofinancing to Manage Risk in the Motion Picture Industry" in the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy and "Spatial Competition in the Network Television Industry" in the RAND Journal of Economics. His paper, "Equilibrium in a Dynamic Limit Order Market," which appeared in the Journal of Finance, was nominated for the Smith Breeden Prize for the best paper in the publication. He was awarded the NYSE award for the best paper on equity trading at the 2004 Western Finance Association Meeting for "Equilibrium in a Dynamic Limit Order Market."

Goettler is a referee for numerous academic publications, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, Management Science, and Marketing Science.

Goettler earned a bachelor's degree summa cum laude in economics from Miami University in 1990. He earned an MA and Masters of Philosophy in economics from Yale University in 1994 and 1996, respectively. In 1999, he earned a PhD in economics from Yale with a dissertation entitled, "An Empirical Analysis of Spatial Competition in the Network Television Industry." Goettler joined the Chicago Booth faculty in 2008.
