In 2008, entrepreneur and Polsky Center board member Susan Hapak, '89, provided funding to create an alumni entrepreneurship seminar to increase the number and success of Chicago Booth entrepreneurs. Past seminars have attracted more than 175 Chicago Booth alumni from around the world who were pursuing or considering entrepreneurial careers.
We will announce more alumni events for the 2011 - 12 academic year soon.
The Hapak Seminar has been a successful vehicle to jump start the creation of new businesses and grow existing businesses. In a recent survey of former attendees, which yielded an impressive 45 percent response rate, all respondents indicated the high value of the seminar to their current endeavors. Specifically, 34 percent of respondents indicated launching a new business or venture; 26 percent joined the team of a start-up or new venture; and seven percent bought a business. In addition almost 50 percent used information from the seminar to successfully grow an existing business.
