Rachael Scherer is the Vice President, Strategy & Business Development for Medtronic’s market leading Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) business, a position she assumed in June, 2012. Her responsibilities include setting global strategy and identifying and evaluating business development activities (licensing, partnerships, acquisitions) for this $1.5 billion business. During her tenure at Medtronic she has also served as Vice President Investor Relations and Corporate Strategy (1999-2006), and Vice President and Program Manager in the Ventures & New Therapies organization (2006-2012). While in the Ventures group, she led Medtronic’s first in-house Phase II combination drug/device study pairing the Medtronic diabetes pump with interferon delivery to treat chronic Hepatitis C. Prior to joining Medtronic, Rachael was a securities analyst and Managing Director, Health Care Research for Dain Bosworth Inc. (now Royal Bank of Canada).
Rachael also chairs the board and serves as a director of third-generation, privately held Scherer Bros. Lumber Company. She is on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities of the Twin Cities and a Trustee at the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library (HMML) at St. John’s University. She previous chaired the board of trustees for the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD).
Rachael holds an MBA from the Booth Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
