Principal and Head of Taxable Bond Group, Vanguard
Kenneth E. Volpert, CFA, is principal, senior portfolio manager, and head of the taxable bond group at The Vanguard Group, in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, where he oversees management of Vanguard’s taxable bond funds, indexed and active. The 40-plus portfolios, with assets of more than $400 billion in global investments, are managed by a team of more than 70 investment professionals (portfolio managers, traders, and credit analysts). He also co-manages Vanguard’s largest bond fund, Vanguard’s $110 billion Total Bond Market Portfolio. He also represents the investment management group in overseeing corporate-wide talent development.
Volpert wrote a chapter titled "Introduction to Bond Portfolio Management," published in numerous Fabozzi publications over the last decade, including the Handbook of Fixed Income Securities. He has over 30 years' fixed-income management experience, has a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and has a bachelor of science degree in finance from the University of Illinois-Urbana and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He lives with his wife and three teenage children in St. David’s, Pennsylvania.
