Laura Brege, '82

Retired EVP & COO, Onyx Pharmaceuticals

Laura Brege serves on the board of directors as well as audit committees of two public companies, Acadia Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and is on the board of the Ohio University Foundation where she is chair. In addition to her board work Brege provides strategic, business, and financial consulting to life sciences and technology companies.

Brege is the retired executive vice president and chief operating officer of Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company whose oncology products are sold worldwide. She has built and led multiple functions including strategy, sales and marketing, medical and scientific affairs, finance, business development, manufacturing, public and investor relations, and government affairs. She chaired the executive committee of Onyx's key strategic alliance and established the international headquarters for Onyx. From 1999 onward, she has been a general partner at Red Rock Capital Management, a venture capital firm specializing in early stage financing for technology companies. The firm invested in over two-dozen software, media, and hardware companies, typically leading or co-leading the initial institutional financing.

Prior to Red Rock, Brege was the senior vice president and chief financial officer at COR Therapeutics, helping build the company from an early stage R&D company through commercial launch of a successful cardiovascular product. Earlier in her career, she served as vice president and chief financial officer at Flextronics, Inc., a worldwide electronics manufacturer and design partner with the majority of operations in Asia, and earlier as treasurer of The Cooper Companies, a Fortune 500 diversified company, and began her career in banking in Chicago.
