The 20th annual Giving Something Back Charity Auction fully lived up to its motto of "Win Big to Give Big!" Thanks to the support of the Booth community, the auction raised over $70,000! The proceeds of the auction will go to Bear Necessities, the Cara Program and HighSight, three local charities that were nominated by Booth students and that strive to make an impact in the lives of those living in poverty, for children's health, and for young future leaders' education here in Chicago. The amount raised at this year's Charity Auction not only exceeded last year, it set a new record for the almost two decade history of the Charity Auction! This is yet more proof of the growing power of the Booth community.
Around 300 people attended this year's charity auction at The Hard Rock Hotel on April 25. Boothies were given an excellent opportunity to put their bidding skills to the test and they brought their A-game. Stakes were high, but the amazing prizes were well worth it. Pictures with Nobel winners in your office or wise stock market advice overheard at dinners with world-renowned professors serve as a perfect conversation starter at any party (not to mention the bragging rights at Harper). The second-year class demonstrated a willingness to spend their hard earned signing bonuses on a good cause, while the first years made Sevgi Yumlu '14 proud by pooling their student loan dollars together to help charity set a new record!
None of this would have been possible without the generous support and donations of the Booth faculty, our fellow students, staff, alumni and our corporate partners. A special thanks to all the volunteers that made the night possible, especially Arti Shah '14 and Jon Hay '13, who hosted the event and handled the bidding frenzy, and to our dreamboats Mimi Jiang '13, Sevgi Yumlu, Belen Romero '14, Perry Hollowell '13, Sonny McCracken '14, and Prem Panchal '14 for being good sports for a great cause!
