Johan Van Overtveldt

General Director, VKW Metena, Belgium

Johan Van Overtveldt is General Director of Belgium-based economics think-tank VKW Metena and a regular columnist for publications such as Knack, Trends, De Tijd and The Wall Street Journal.   His main areas of interest are history of economic thought, macroeconomics, industrial economics, international politics and terrorism.

In the spring of 2007, Van Overtveldt published The Chicago School: How the University of Chicago Assembled the Thinkers Who Revolutionized Economics and Business (Agate, 2007).  Based on extensive interviews with Chicago faculty and others, his book is the first to provide an in-depth history of the Chicago School of Economics and its influence and also includes chapters on its development in Chicago Booth and the Law School.

In addition to holding master's degree and MBA, Van Overtveldt received a PhD in Applied Economy from the University of Antwerp in 2001 on the topic The University of Chicago, Its History and Place in the Development of Modern Economics.
