Register Online Speaker ProfilesGustavo Franco Gustavo Henrique de Barroso Franco is a Partner and Executive Director in Rio Bravo's Distribution area. He was Brazil's Central Bank president from August 1997 to January 1999. During the four years prior to this period, he was the Central Bank's International Area director. Between May and September 1993, Gustavo served as Economic Policy secretary for the Exchequer and was part of the team that drew up the 'Plano Real'. From 1986 to 1993 Gustavo Franco taught at the Economics Department of the Catholic University (PUC) in Rio de Janeiro, a post he took over again in 2004. Gustavo has also written several books and articles, and he still writes articles for Veja magazine in Brazil. Gustavo Franco majored in Economics at the Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro (PUC), and has a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. Pedro Aspe Pedro Aspe, born in 1950, is CEO of Protego, a leading investment banking firm in Mexico. Since 1996 Protego has advised more than 125 transactions, including private equity placements, mergers & acquisitions, project financing and municipal bonds. Since 2003, Protego also created an investment fund called Discovery Americas I which has been investing in the Mexican economy. Dr. Aspe has been a professor of Economics at ITAM and has held a number of positions with the Mexican government: was founder of INEGI (National Bureau of Statistics), Secretary of Budget and Secretary of the Treasury of Mexico. Dr. Aspe is a member of the Advisory Board of Stanford University's Institute of International Studies and of the Visiting Committee of the Department of Economics of the MIT. Currently he is a director of the McGraw Hill Companies and The Carnegie Corporation (New York) Televisa (Mexico) and of Xignux (Monterrey) and sits on the Advisory Board of Marvin & Palmer (Wilmington) and of AIG (New York). He is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of MG Capital (Monterrey) and Endeavor (Mexico). Since 2005 has been the Chairman of Volaris in Mexico City. Marta Lagos
Marta Lagos Cruz Coke is M.A. in Economics in Heidelberg University , Germany. She has worked in the public opinion field since 1984. She worked first at the Centro de Estudios de la Realidad Contempor�nea (CERC), where she was director from 1990 to 1993. In 1994 she founded her own market and society opinion research company in partnership with MORI multinational in UK. In the academic field, Mrs Marta Lagos is author of Bar�metro CERC, which has monitored the Chilean Transition since 1987. She is also the author of three books about the consolidation of democracy. She is part of the Worl Value Survey team and part of the committee that organizes the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES). Additionally, Mrs. Lagos, has been consultant on survey issues and electoral process in transition in 23 countries. She founded Latinobarometro in 1995, a public opinion survey that illustrates opinions, behaviors and values. The survey first started in 8 countries in the region, then it grew up to 17 in 1996, and finally reached 18 countries in 2004. In 1996, MORI and WAPOR founded the Public Opinion Chilean Association in order to promote and develop this discipline, based on WAPOR standards. Mrs. Marta Lagos was the first president of this association. She was resident of Columbia University at New York, as a senior researcher in 1988-1989. She taught political science at the graduate level in the Universidad de Chile in 1992. She also has taught public opinion courses at various private Chilean universities. Since 1990, she has been a member of the board of several Chilean organizations: among them World Woman�s Bank, where she is a member or the board. She has also served as consultant at UNDP, WB and IADB. Alfonso Prat-Gay Mr. Alfonso Prat-Gay was the president of Argentina�s Central Bank from 2002 to 2004. Prior to this he co-founded APL Econom�a, an economic consulting firm in Buenos Aires, advising leading local and foreign companies doing business in Argentina. From 1994 until 2001 he worked at JP Morgan where he headed the Global FX Research team out of London, providing regular advise on how to trade around 40 currencies across the globe. He gained kudos for the design of several insightful trading models that continue to outperform more traditional alternatives in the FX world. Prior to his London assignment, he was the Head of Research of the Emerging Markets Proprietary Trading Group, a team investing JPMorgan�s own capital across all EM asset classes. He joined JPMorgan in 1994 and spent the first two years as the country economist for Argentina and Chile based in New York. Earlier in his career (1989-1992) he also served Director of research at Alpha S.A., a leading macroeconomic consulting firm in Buenos Aires. Mr. Prat-Gay is a Ph.D. candidate from the University of Pennsylvania where he obtained his Masters of Arts in Economics (1994). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the Universidad Cat�lica Argentina (1989) (summa cum laude) where he also taught several undergraduate courses (1989-92). He is a member of the faculty of Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and a member of the academic board of the Universidad Cat�lica Argentina, both in Buenos Aires. Jes�s Marcus Jes�s Marcos is Deputy Governor of the Banco de M�xico (Mexico�s Central Bank). As a board member, he is involved in the conduct of monetary policy and the design of financial markets regulations issue by the central bank. Mr. Marcos is a Mexican national who obtained his Bachelor�s Degree in Economics from the Universidad de Nuevo Le�n, M�xico, and Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Columbia University, N. Y., specializing in Monetary Economics, International Trade and Finance. He was lecturer in economic theory at the school of Economics of the Universidad de Nuevo Le�n, M�xico. He was the Manager of the Planning Department at the Mexican Institute for Foreign Trade. Mr. Marcos joined the Bank of Mexico in 1978 and headed the Financial Programming Department, and later the Economic Research Department. Since 1994 to date he has been Deputy Governor. He has been member of the board of directors of different banking institutions, and of several development trust funds established by the Federal Government. He has published articles on monetary policy and on financial intermediation. Leticia Costa Let�cia Costa is President of Booz Allen Hamilton do Brasil. She worked with the firm in London prior to joining the S�o Paulo office. She leads the Industrials Group in Latin America and has served on the firm's Board of Directors. In more than fifteen years of experience with Booz Allen, Ms. Costa has completed a wide range of assignments in Europe and South America. Her industry experience includes automotive, autoparts, steel, capital goods, airlines, chemicals and petrochemicals, food manufacturers, retail and others. Her experience is mostly in operations-related work encompassing manufacturing strategy, lean manufacturing, operations strategy, package selection and implementation support, supply chain management, cost reduction/effectiveness increase and organization design. Ms. Costa has substantial experience in the automotive industry, having worked for vehicle manufacturers (passenger and commercial), autoparts manufacturers and automotive dealers. Prior to joining the firm, Ms Costa was a Systems Analyst for Ind�strias Villares S.A., developing and enhancing large manufacturing and cost accounting systems. Ms. Costa received her B.Sc. degree in Production Engineering from the Escola Polit�cnica da Universidade de S�o Paulo, and her MBA degree from Cornell University. |
