Event Details:

The investment management world has been significantly impacted
in the last few years by revelations affecting the brokerage, mutual
funds, and investment banking industries. So what better way to
introduce the 2003 Pan Am Stock Contest Award winner than to have
Franklin Morton provide his insights on:

    strategy created the winning momentum?

FYI: The Pro-Am Investment Challenge is an annual
stock-picking contest open to alumni or faculty members of the University
of Chicago. Each participant invested in a hypothetical $100,000
portfolio that had at least 2 but not more than 5 securities and each
security accounted for at least 20 percent of the total portfolio value.
No trades! No mutual funds or money market funds were allowed.
Participants could choose from the following investments: Common Stock
and Preferred Stock: Any stock traded on the NYSE, AMEX, or NASDAQ;
Bonds: Any corporate bond or U.S. Treasury (excluding mortgage-backed
securities and convertible bonds) listed in the Wall Street Journal; Cash
or 12-month Treasury bills (no money market funds).
Short sales allowed! Entries were made by January 24, 2003.

Speaker Profiles:

Franklin L. Morton: As Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management,works directly with Ariel Capital's Chairman and CEO John W. Roger, Jr. in the portfolio management process for Ariel's mid-cap institutional and mutual fund portfolios. He brings more than 20 years of practical experience to the investment team at Ariel. Prior to joining the firm in 1991, he spent eight years as a Vice President in the research department at the investment banking firm of Alex. Brown & Sons, Inc. in Baltimore, where he followed a broad range of consumer stocks. He received an MBA from the University of Virginia and earned a BA in Political Science from Middlebury College. He serves as a Trustee of the Diocesan Foundation and the Northfield Police Pension Board. Franklin and his wife Debbie have two children and reside in Northfield.
