Book Synopsis:

The global economy is here. Whether you are traveling to foreign shores or just across town to address an international conference, you need to navigate between cultures and build bridges for successful relationships worldwide.

In this lively and informative talk, Beth Urech highlights cultural expectations, critical behavioral codes and offers practical advice for seasoned speakers and reluctant novices alike.

Although the lingua franca in the business world is currently English, countries and cultures retain their traditions and customs. It is to your advantage to know when it is appropriate to:

  • Use first names or titles.
  • Not to cross your legs showing the sole of your shoes.
  • Not to shake hands.
  • Make eye contact while clinking wine glasses.
  • Avoid humor in your talk.
  • Greet VIPs before you speak.

As Urech says, “An innocent faux pas will not cause an international incident, but your behavior influences how you, your firm and your home country are perceived.”

Come with questions and comments to make this an interactive presentation.

Speaking Globally will be available for purchase at a special price. In addition to helping you create and deliver successful speeches, its 50 Country Profiles give up-to-date tips on protocol, dress code, body language and sensitive issues. Speaking Globally helps you choose your words and your wardrobe so you put your best foot forward—not in your mouth!
