CEO Watch: Making Headlines
Gary Bhojwani, '94
President and CEO
Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America
Americans, particularly Baby Boomers, have made a "seismic shift" in their thinking about insuring their retirement, Bhojwani told CNBC on September 13. "We've seen that [financial] crisis really shake people's faith in the fundamentals that they thought they could count on," he said. Adding to concerns are longevity increases with more and more people coming into retirement age. Bhojwani based his comments on a study his firm ordered that showed Americans fear outliving their savings more than they fear death by a rate of 69 percent to 31 percent. In addition, the poll of 3,300 Baby Boomers also showed that a majority would prefer a guaranteed 4 percent rate of return with no risk to principal than an 8 percent return gained at market risk, he said. Bhojwani recommended annuities as a retirement solution.

Akinde launched his firm in Seattle. He met CFO Chris Rooks, '99, at a Booth alumni event.
