Altegris Investments, Inc.:
Craig W. Gilbert, �02, has joined the company as
director of marketing. Headquartered in La Jolla, California, the firm provides
individuals and institutions with information about such alternative investments
as managed futures, hedge funds, and hedge fund of funds.
Dendreon Corporation:
Richard P. Rieger, '91, was appointed vice president,
business development, of the Seattle-based firm. Dendreon is a biotechnology
company that develops innovative cancer treatments.
Digital Insight Corp.:
Paul J. Pucino, '92, has been appointed executive
vice president and CFO, effective in January. Based in Calabasas, California,
the firm makes software that enables bank and credit union customers to make
balance inquiries, view transaction histories, transfer funds, and pay bills
over the Internet.
EXPO Design Center:
Bruce Nelson, '84, has joined the firm as merchandising
vice president. A division of Home Depot, EXPO's 54 stores sell high-end
fixtures, flooring, appliances, and home accessories for kitchens and bathrooms.
The company is headquartered in Atlanta.
Human Genome Sciences, Inc.:
H. Thomas Watkins, '79, has been appointed CEO
and a member of the board of directors. Based in Rockville, Maryland, the
firm develops new gene-based protein and antibody drugs.
Information Handling Services Group:
Matthew Levin, '98, has been appointed senior vice
president, corporate development and strategic planning. Based in Englewood,
Colorado, IHS publishes technical documents focusing on engineering, energy,
and regulatory issues and distributes the data in electronic formats including
Internet, intranet, and CD-ROM.
Lipman Hearne:
Julia Marie Brady, '96, has joined the firm as
associate vice president in its Chicago office. Lipman Hearne has created
a newspaper advertising campaign for Chicago GSB and is currently working
to promote the Executive MBA Program.
Lynch Interactive Corporation:
John A. Cole, MBA '76, JD '76, has been appointed
vice president, corporate development, general counsel, and secretary of
the firm. Based in Rye, New York, the company is a diversified holding company
engaged in telecommunications, cable TV and broadcasting, personal communications,
and related wireless services.
Milacron Inc.:
Sallie B. Bailey, '84, has been named to the company's
board of directors. Bailey is senior vice president-finance and controller
at the Timken Company in Canton, Ohio. Milacron, based in Cincinnati, is
a leading global supplier of plastics-processing technologies and industrial
fluids with manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe, and Asia.
The firm employs about 3,500 people.
Paragon Global Resources, Inc.:
Craig Selders, '90, has joined the company as senior
vice president of global business development. Based in Rancho Santa Margarita,
California, the firm is the parent company of Paragon Relocation Resources,
Paragon Financial Resources, Paragon Real Estate Resources, and Paragon Career
Resources.
Phelps Dodge Mining Company:
Jeffrey Best, '01, has joined the company as manager,
project development, leading the international and domestic mine expansion
projects, mine start-ups, and other opportunities for growth. Based in Phoenix,
Arizona, the company is the world's second largest producer of copper and
the world's largest publicly traded copper producer, employing more than
14,000 people worldwide.
Pioneer Natural Resources Company:
Timothy L. Dove, '81, has been promoted to president
and chief operating officer. Previously, Dove was executive vice president
and CFO. Headquartered in Dallas, Pioneer is a large independent oil and
gas exploration and production company with operations in the United States,
Argentina, Canada, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, and Tunisia.
RF Monolithics, Inc.:
Joseph E. Andrulis, '90, has been appointed vice
president of marketing. Based in Dallas, the firm makes a broad range of
radio frequency components for the telecommunications, automotive, consumer,
industrial, medical, distribution, and security markets worldwide.
SmartSignal Corporation:
Steve Tonissen, '76, has been named vice president
of marketing. Based in Lisle, Illinois, the firm designs and manufactures
equipment condition monitoring software that warns of potential failure in
any factory, machine, or operating system, from a turbine to a wristwatch.
WageWorks:
Chris Russell, '89, has been named senior vice
president of marketing. The San Mateo, California-based company provides
tax-advantaged spending accounts for health care, dependent care, and commuter
benefits.
Zyman Group:
Lee White, '79, has been named the first chief
operating officer for the international management consulting firm, based
in its Atlanta office. The company also has offices in Chicago and Mexico
City and was ranked the fastest-growing consulting firm on the 2004 Inc.
500 list of fastest-growing private companies.

Alumni to Know
JoAnn Lilek, '83,
was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune in December
about leaving LaSalle Bank after more than 20 years to become
CFO at DSC Logistics, a supply-chain management firm based
in Des Plaines, Illinois. Through her involvement with Metropolitan
Chicago YWCA, Lilek met fellow supporters Cheryl Francis, '78,
and Sheila Penrose, former executive-in-residence at Chicago
GSB, who later recommended Lilek for the job in 2001. Lilek
told the paper, "LaSalle was a fairly secure environment. This
move had an element of risk, but it's also exciting." Her mentors
included Ted Roberts, the bank's CFO, who encouraged her to
get involved in local charities. As an undergraduate at Loyola
University, she wrote "a mini-dissertation successfully replicating
a proof of [Robert R. McCormick Distinguished Service Professor
of Finance] Eugene Fama's random walk theory," Lilek told the Tribune.
The professor inspired her to enroll at Chicago GSB to get
her MBA, she said.
Karen L. Newman, MBA '73, PhD '78,
has been named dean of the University of Denver Daniels College
of Business. According to the Rocky Mountain News,
Newman taught organizational behavior, change management, and
teambuilding at Georgetown University, Case Western Reserve
University, and Bucknell University. She served as a visiting
lecturer at the Czech Management Center in Prague, Czech Republic,
and the Melbourne Business School in Melbourne, Australia.
Newman most recently served as dean of the Robbins School of
Business at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.
