Over the past two decades, we have witnessed a revolution in telecommunications technology, as wireless communications, access to the Internet, video streaming, social networking, and E-commerce have become popular on a global basis. This presentation will highlight some of the achievements over the past two decades, as well as new services likely to be introduced over the next decade. This talk will also discuss profit margin, cash flow, and market share trends, the impact of regulatory policy, and M&A activity, involving carriers such as AT&T, Comcast, and Sprint. The presentation will also include some ideas as to how to stimulate growth in the smartphone segment.

Lawrence M. Harris '78 (Speaker) '78
Private Investor

Lawrence Harris is a private investor. Previously, he spent 25 years as an equity analyst covering companies in the aerospace, telecommunications equipment, and information technology sectors. He worked for a number of investment banks and rersearch firms, including Kemper Securities, Bear Stearns, and Oppenheimer. He was twice named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the Best on the Street analysts for stock selection in communications technology.

The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Barron's, Fortune, and BusinessWeek have cited his investment views. He has also appeared on CNBC, CNN, and Bloomberg Television. He has spoken at a number of public forums, including the UCLA Business Forecasting Conference, the annual UCLA Wireless Internet for Mobile Enterprise Consortium, and the Mobile Entertainment Forum.

Mr. Harris has also worked for AT&T, Rockwell International, and Arthur D. Little.

He earned an AB in Economics from Lafayette College in 1976 and an MBA in Finance and International Business from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1978.
