For 16 years, Cindy Boggs and colleagues from Argonne helped convert Russian nuclear warhead materials into low-enriched uranium, which was eventually used to fuel nuclear power plants in the US. he successful end of the program in late December 2013 commemorates both a technical and geopolitical triumph. Is this program a template for other nonproliferation endeavors or even a basis for future cooperation in always difficult US - Russian relations? As reported in the Chicago Tribune ["From Soviet warheads to nuclear fuel," 10 December 2013], Cindy Boggs for 16 years helped bring enough nuclear material to the US from Russia's secret weapons arsenal to destroy the world several times over.  Ms. Boggs joined Argonne's efforts in Russia in 1997 and was sent to Russia that same year.
