We will host a panel discussion on MBA experiences, career development, and WLB for women on 29 January 2014. Two distinguished alumni, Naoko Nemoto, '94, Managing Director, Standard & Poor's Rating Services and Akiko Nakajo, '06, Director at Google Japan will share their experiences at business school as well as experiences from their professional and personal lives.
Following the panel discussion, we will have networking cocktails.
This is an event targeted at Booth women alumni as well as women considering pursuing an MBA degree. Please invite your female friends who are interested in pursuing an MBA, especially at Chicago Booth. We are only able to open this up to female potential MBA candidates at this moment.
Participation fee: JPY 3,000-4,000 (depending on the number of the participants). Payment will be collected on the door.
Naoko Nemoto, '94 (Speaker)
Managing Director, Financial Services Ratings, Standard & Poor’s Rating Services
Naoko Nemoto, '94 is a Managing Director, Financial Institutions Ratings for Standard & Poor's Ratings Services. Naoko heads all research activities for the Asia-Pacific Financial Institutions team and is an expert on the Financial Services sector in Japan.
As a primary analyst covering several key financial institutions, Naoko regularly comments on developments in the financial services industry via written reports, speeches, and seminars.
Before joining Standard & Poor's in 1994, Naoko worked for the Bank of Japan as an economist and analyst.
Naoko has been a member of the Financial System Council of Japan's Financial Services Agency. Naoko has written three books on finance covering theory and practice of bank management, post-crisis trends in the banking industry, and Korean financial reform.
Being a mother of two children, Naoko has been struggling how to balance and prioritize tasks that she needs to get done.
Naoko has a Bachelor's degree in Law from Waseda University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Chicago Booth.
Akiko Nakajo, '06 (Speaker)
Director, Industry Sales, Google Japan Inc
Akiko joined Google in April 2013 and her mission is to lead and expand Google's digital marketing business, and in charge of Finance, B to B, Media & Entertainment, Technology, Telecommunication industry sales.
After working for TV Tokyo Corporation, TV Asahi Corporation, and CNN, and playing various roles in program productions, Akiko joined Bloomberg Television K. K. in 1996. Akiko was then appointed as Head of Sales/ Head of Japan Strategy Plan/ Deputy Representative of Bloomberg L.P. (US) in 2003 following her role as President/ Head of Asia Pacific in Bloomberg K.K. in Japan.
In 2012, Akiko became the Chief Information Officer of Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission at The National Diet of Japan.
Akiko is a concurrent adjunct lecturer of the Graduate School of Finance, Accounting and Law at Waseda University, a member of a task force committee of Japan Government Cabinet Office responsible for developing strategies for building competitive smart cities "Future City Concept", a chairman of a non-profit organization of "OMY Area Management Association", and a vice chairman of Waseda University Finance Alumni Association.
She has a BA in Political Science and Economics from Waseda University and an MBA from Chicago Booth. Akiko was the third Japanese female to complete the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Since 2009, Akiko has been organizing events called "Mama Cafe" for working moms and dads in the Marunouchi area where they share and exchange information. She has been actively involved with community enhancement projects such as Pink Ribbon campaigns and La Folle Journée au JAPON (music ambassador).
From 2004 to 2012, she launched and managed the operation of "Kids Market Camp", a financial/ economic education program for children, where she acted as the bridge between the communities and the children.
Akiko has also published a book titled, "The Class Moves the World: How Business Elites Decipher the World Economy in 2010" (co written with Richard H.K. Vietor, Harvard Business School), winning grand prize at the 23rd Business Book Marathon. The book is scheduled to be published in Korea in 2013.
