After January's provocative look at JC Penney and the astonishing challenges Ron Johnson faces, we continue to focus on value. For this month, we have teed up some interesting takes on social value and its role and impact on business. We have included a couple of videos too. This is not the theoretical treatise on shared social value Michael Porter published in January 2011 HBR (http://hbr.org/2011/01/the-big-idea-creating-shared-value) to great fanfare. Instead we focus on a debate John Mackey CEO of Whole Foods has begun about the purpose of business. This may not be a new trend, but we thought it worth examining a variety of perspectives, unusual journeys and explore the connection of values to culture and impact on business value
We will be hosting our meeting at the new Workspring location this month at 30 W. Monroe on the 4th floor. Workspring offers a collaborative working and meeting environment that incorporates the latest technology, space design and business services. Note, they will provide hot beverages for us; but feel free to bring your own nosh. The beautiful space is fully wired and we will endeavor to bring in some old friends who are no longer available to join us in person.
