John Pomfret (Speaker)
John Pomfret is an American journalist and writer. In 1980, he was one of the first American students to go to China and study at Nanjing University. Between 1983 and 1984 he attended Singapore's Institute of Southeast Asian Studies as a Fulbright Scholar, researching the Cambodian conflict. Raised in New York City and educated at Stanford and Nanjing universities,
John Pomfret is an award-winning journalist with The Washington Post. He has been a foreign correspondent for 15 years, covering wars large and small in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Congo, Sri Lanka, Iraq, southwestern Turkey and northeastern Iran. Pomfret has spent seven years covering China – one in the late 1980s during the protests and then from 1998 until the end of 2003 as the bureau chief for The Washington Post in Beijing. Returning to the United States in 2004, Pomfret was the paper's West Coast bureau chief for two years before being appointed the editor of its Outlook section, the Post's weekly commentary section.
Pomfret speaks, reads and writes Mandarin, having spent two years at Nanjing University in the early 1980s as part of one of the first groups of American students to study in China. He has been a bartender in Paris and practiced Judo in Japan.
In 2003, Pomfret was awarded the Osborne Elliot Award for the best coverage of Asia by the Asia Society. In 2007, Pomfret was awarded the Shorenstein Award from Havard and Stanford universities for his lifetime coverage of Asia. He is married to a Chinese entrepreneur and has three children. He is the author of the critically-acclaimed "Chinese Lessons: Five Classmates and the Story of the New China."

Victor Gao was with the Chinese Foreign Service in Beijing and the United Nations Secretariat in New York City between 1983 and 1989, and was an English interpreter for the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. In 1999 and 2000, he was the China Policy Advisor with the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission.??
Victor Gao is currently in private equity business in China and is an Executive Director of Beijing Private Equity Association (BPEA) and the Chairman of its International Committee. In mid-November 2008, he was elected the first Secretary-General of the China Private Equity Association (to be formally incorporated pending PRC government approval), which will be the principal self-discipline body for the PE industry in China. He has extensive working experience in investment banking and corporate management, including positions with Morgan Stanley and its joint-venture China International Capital Corporation (1994 to 1999), PCCW, Henderson Land, and, most recently, with CNOOC Limited where he served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Company Secretary, as well as Member of the CNOOC Investment Committee and Director of CNOOC International. ?

He has been regularly interviewed by major news agencies in China and abroad, including CCTV, China Radio International, Caijing Magazine, various newspapers in China, BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Guardian of the UK, Hong Kong Asian Television Station (ATV), RET of Ireland, SVT of Sweden, EFE of Spain, Al Jazeera TV Station, NHK World, etc. Victor Gao is a current affairs commentator for CCTV International and a regular speaker at international conferences.
Xiaochen Chen (Speaker)
Mr. Chen is the Co-Founder and Deputy Executive Secretary of China Business News Research Institute; and a Senior Journalist at China Business News (Daily). He is also Editor-in-Chief, Strategy, a Monthly Supplement of China Business News (CBN).
He received 1ST Place of Editor-in-Chief Award, China Business News, 2010; Excellent Employee, Shanghai Media Group (CBN shareholder), in 2010 and 2011; and also Excellent Graduate, Peking University, 2006.
