Shirakawa, AM '77
Mr. Masaaki Shirakawa was born in September 1949. He recieved his undergraduate education at the University of
Tokyo graduating in 1972. In April 1972 Mr. Shirakawa entered the Bank of Japan and in 1977 received his Master's
degree in Economics from the UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO. After returning to Japan, Mr. Shirakawa held increasingly
prominent & challenging positions within the Bank of Japan & related institutions. In 2008 he became
the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan & on June 9, 2008, he became the 30th Governor of the Bank of Japan.
