By using an antigen to trigger the body's immune response, vaccinations have saved millions of lives. What if a reverse vaccine could stop autoimmune responses? Professor Jeffrey A. Hubbell will discuss his team's work on a so-called inverse vaccine and its potential to prevent or treat autoimmune diseases like type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
Jeffrey A. Hubbell is the Barry L. MacLean Professor of Molecular Engineering Innovation and Enterprise in the Institute for Molecular Engineering and professor in the Committee on Immunology at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on the use of biomaterials and protein engineering in regenerative medicine and immunotherapeutics, and he's founded or cofounded three biomedical companies based on his technology.
