The time young children spend at home is arguably the most significant in promoting their early learning and readiness for school. Chicago Harris's Behavioral Insights and Parenting Lab helps parents support their preschool-age children's development, particularly in economically disadvantaged households, by creating tools and recommending strategies to improve children's academic performance and social behavior. Codirector of the BIP Lab Ariel Kalil will discuss the lab's work at the intersection of parental engagement and behavioral science.

Ariel Kalil (Speaker)

In addition to codirecting the BIP Lab, Ariel Kalil is a professor at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and director of its Center for Human Potential and Public Policy. A developmental psychologist who studies economic conditions, parenting, and child development, Kalil has recently focused on the historical evolution of income-based gaps in parenting behavior and children's cognitive and noncognitive skills.
