Event Details

Crime remains one of the most pressing public policy problems facing developed and developing countries. Given the widespread and longstanding skepticism about the ability of social policy or rehabilitation programs to prevent crime, the United States has relied increasingly on imprisonment as a key crime-control lever and now has the highest incarceration rate per capita in the world – by far."

The University of Chicago Crime Lab uses insights from basic science to develop innovative new approaches to reducing violence.
Jens Ludwig, director of the University of Chicago's Crime Lab and now Crime Lab New York, will examine the key causes and potential remedies of youth violence, drawing on examples from the Crime Lab's ongoing projects.

Jens Ludwig is also the McCormick Foundation Professor of Social Service Administration, Law, and Public Policy in the School of Social Service Administration and the Harris School, plus co-director of the University of Chicago Urban Education Lab.
