The Twin Cities Alumni Network (TCAN) hosts a reception with appetizers and a presentation by Owen R. Youngman on MOOCs. A little more than a year ago, Medill professor Owen Youngman, the Knight Chair in digital media strategy, began teaching the first of Northwestern's "massively open online courses" or MOOCs. Nearly 100,000 people signed up for the first two sessions, and session 3 is currently underway; Prof. Youngman will present highlights of his research to date. Come decide whether you agree that, under the right circumstances, the aims of higher education can be accomplished even when the classroom is both as big as the globe and as small as a tabletop.
