Event Details

Two months ago Michael Lewis, appearing on 60 Minutes to promote his new book Flash Boys, boldly proclaimed that the stock market is rigged and that everybody invested in the market is a victim. Flash Boys soared to the #1 spot on Amazon the day it was released and has maintained a top of the New York Times Best Sellers list since then. In the aftermath of this controversial declaration there has been a great deal of outrage and confusion about how trading works in the modern era. Is the market really rigged? Are we all indeed victims?

Our panelists will attempt to demystify the trading world in order to separate fact from fiction. We will review the evolution of trading and discuss where it is heading. We will address the role of cutting edge technology and innovative trading tools and what is being done to ensure that they do not destabilize the entire system. We will talk about the impact of HFT, the Flash Crash, and other recent scandals and put them in proper context. Most importantly, we will discuss what is being done to ensure that investors receive fair execution and that the marketplace continues to function in an orderly fashion.

Our esteemed panel represents a diverse set of roles and opinions on the evolution of trading, the current landscape, and the challenges we will need to overcome.

We look forward to your participation in this spirited roundtable discussion.
