The University of Chicago Women's Business Group invites you and a guest to this unique member-only social and cultural event.
Katherine Duncan, founder of Katherine Anne Confections, will tell us her start-up story and guide our group to creating classic hand-rolled truffles. Small teams of 3 to 4 participants will create a truffle recipe completely from scratch. You'll create, measure, chill, scoop, and roll truffles to completion. Everyone will leave with a sampling of the truffles created that day (approximately 10).
About the owner
Katherine's upbringing on a small Wisconsin farm led to an appreciation for fresh, delicious products. Her first venture started at the age of 10 when she turned cream from her family's cows into soft, old-fashioned caramels. "Katherine's Karamels" were sold at Dad's office for 25 cents apiece and quickly became a local favorite. Soon, her caramels and truffles were highly anticipated gifts every Christmas. In the fall of 2006 Katherine Anne Confections launched in Chicago.

Cream is from a 500-cow herd of Jerseys in central Illinois and local wildflower honey is used to replace corn syrup. Flavors are a twist on the traditional, including Cherry Amaretto, Citrus, and Toasted Coconut Rum. Katherine Anne's products can be found all over the Chicago area. A list can be found here:

Please wear close-toed shoes and pull your hair back (if possible) as we are a working kitchen. The experience will last 2.5 to 3 hours.

Khloe Karova is president of the University of Chicago Women's Business Group and event organizer and host.
Khloe graduated from the Graduate School of Business in 2006 and was shortly after promoted to Strategic Planning Manager in Equity Trading at Lehman Brothers. In September 2008, the same week she found out she was pregnant, she was laid off from Lehman Brothers with a full severance package just 3 days before bankruptcy. Fortunately, her severance was honored by Barclay's who acquired Lehman's equity trading unit. Khloe took this as a sign that she should use the time off to find another career that was more meaningful.
In 2009, Khloe decided to go into financial planning for working families and joined Edward Jones, launching its first female minority branch in a mixed income community. Khloe's branch was the fastest growing Edward Jones branch for three consecutive years. In 2013, Khloe left Edward Jones to start her own investment advisory firm after earning every award available to her. Modern Capital Concepts is an independent financial advisory firm and one of the first financial services firms organized as a benefit-corporation in the City of Chicago.
