Our panelists will provide their unique perspectives and share data about entrepreneurialism. Our roundtable consists of an investor, and entrepreneur, an author, and a lawyer who represents startups.
We will consider opportunities and pitfalls currently in the market place and how to mitigate the most significant risks associated with investing in start ups.
Chicago has been building momentum as a center for angel investors and entreprenuers. Recent high-profile success stories like Groupon, the 2012 launch of 1871 (a tech incubator located in the Merchandise Mart), and the formation of angel networks like Hyde Park Angels and the IrishAngels are all contributing to the rise of angel opportunities in Chicago.

Gale Bowman (Panelist)

Gale Bowman is the Managing Director of IrishAngels, an early stage angel investment group. She joined the founding team in summer of 2012 and has grown the group to 75 investors in size and overseen three investments totaling over $1 million in seed and Series A capital. She also teaches a course on early stage investing at the University of Notre Dame as an adjunct instructor. Her previous work experience includes market research consulting at Nielsen and corporate strategy at Orbitz. She has consulted multiple startups on customer research, marketing, and funding strategy. Bowman is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Notre Dame and a member of the Irish Entrepreneurs Network. She has a BBA with honors from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Mike Moyer (Panelist)
Author, Slicing Pie -- Funding Your Business without Funds
Mike Moyer is the author of Slicing Pie, a book about dividing equity in start-up companies. He has started a number of companies including Bananagraphics, a product development and merchandising company, Moondog, an outdoor clothing manufacturing company;Vicarious Communication, Inc, a marketing technology company for the medical industry; Cappex.com, a site that helps students find the right college; and Lake Shark Ventures, LLC which provides publications and consulting on a variety of topics including, college admissions, trade shows and job search. In addition to his experience as an entrepreneur he has held a number of senior-level marketing positions with companies that sell everything from vacuum cleaners to financial data services to motor home chassis to luxury wine.
Mike teaches Entrepreneurship at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is also the author of How to Make Colleges Want You, College Peas, and Trade Show Samurai. He has an MS in integrated marketing from Northwestern University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He lives in Lake Forest, Illinois with his wife and three kids.

Clint A. Costa is an attorney and CPA practicing with the Chicago law firm of Duggan Bertsch, LLC. Clint represents starters, startups, and operating companies on a wide variety of official sounding legal and tax matters. Clint acts as general counsel for startups and operating companies, advising on everything from entity structure to contracts to funding to mergers and acquisitions. Clint also represents entrepreneurs personally, counseling them on estate planning, income tax planning and asset protection matters. Clint writes and speaks regularly. His classes for entrepreneurs can be found at Chicago startups Dabble.co and SnapClass.com, and his writings can be read at Technori.com and TechCocktail.com. Clint is also an adjunct professor of law at the Chicago-Kent College of Law where he teaches contract drafting and business law.

After nearly 5 years in leadership at Apple retail, Jimmy learned the craft of developing the customer experience Apple retail is known for. Prior to Apple, he gained his logistics chops managing the dispatch center for emergency medical care for the South Chicago region of Illinois. Having owned and operated his own gourmet pizza delivery service, in addition to launching several other startups Jimmy challenges himself by studying diverse subject matters including film production (Columbia College Chicago), culinary arts (Le Cordon Bleu Chicago) and most recently web development (Starter League).
Now as Founder and CEO of WeDeliver Jimmy is responsible for executing the vision and business development of WeDeliver. Along with being a serial entrepreneur at heart, his mission is to build a brand whose primary focus is to create more transformational experiences rather than transactional ones.
