As one of the premiere business schools in the world with a faculty and alumni group that have won more Nobel Prizes that any other institution, the CBAA is honored to host its Annual Black History Month Awards Program to recognize outstanding business and community leaders. This year's honorees include:

Warrick L. Carter, Ph.D., is the President of Columbia College Chicago, the nation's largest Arts and Communications College. He joined Columbia in 2000, following a four-year term as director of entertainment arts for Walt Disney Entertainment. At Disney, he was responsible for developing global education and live arts programs for the entire corporation.

Ken Smikle, President and Founder of Target Market News, is considered one of the nation's leading authorities on marketing, advertising and media directed to the African-American market. Target Market News covers business activities in advertising, marketing and media targeted to black consumers.
Tim King (Speaker)
President and CEO, Urban Prep Academies
Tim King is founder, President and CEO of Urban Prep Academies, a nonprofit organization operating a network of public college-prep boys' schools in Chicago (including the nation's first all-male charter high school) and related programs aimed at promoting college success. 100% of Urban Prep graduates—all African-American males and mostly from low-income families—have been admitted to four-year colleges/universities.
Toni Preckwinkle (Speaker)

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has been a dedicated community leader for over two decades, providing independent and progressive leadership founded on experience, coalition building and a commitment to practical results. Through collaboration, President Preckwinkle is working with the County Board, our elected officials and county employees to implement major reforms to reshape county government into a world-class institution of which the people of Cook County can be proud. Preckwinkle's independent and progressive leadership earned her the IVI-IPO Best Alderman Award in 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2005 and 2008, and the 1997 and 2009 Leon Despres Awards.
Hermene Hartman (Speaker)
Publisher, NDIGO Magazine
Hermene Hartman, Publisher of NDIGO Magazine, is one of the most significant and influential Black Women in media and American publishing. She is a rounded media personality addressing the soul, spirit and sensibility of America with insight, curiosity, historical context, wit, and reality. Her behavioral scientist education is replicated in her writings and commentaries. Hartman holds four college degrees and was Vice Chancellor of External Affairs at City Colleges of Chicago, the nation's third largest community College
