Members of racial and ethnic minority groups in the United States receive worse medical care and have poorer outcomes than whites. In this lecture, general internist and health services researcher Marshall Chin will review what interventions have been proven to reduce disparities in care and discuss what has to happen in health care reform to eliminate these differences in care.
Chin is the Richard Parrillo Family Professor of Healthcare Ethics in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He received his medical degree at the University of California at San Francisco and completed residency and fellowship training in general internal medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School. He currently coleads a project that seeks to improve diabetes care and outcomes on the South Side of Chicago by integrating the strengths of the health-care system and the community. He also directs the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change National Program Office.
