Mergers and acquisitions in the business world often fail due to cultural differences. When the differences transcend national borders, the issues are even more complex. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the reunification of Germany - the largest merger in the world - began as the former German Democratic Republic became a part of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Event Details

The differences in culture included state-oriented vs. democracy, communist vs. socialist, social status, employment expectations, work ethic, and even language differences.

Ruth-Ann McKellin, an expert in business process management, organizational change, and performance management, will discuss cross-cultural merger integration, having served on a team for the Social Ministry of the state of Thüringen (former East) Germany, that privatized hospitals, clinics, orphanages, and health spas. This presentation will be of particular interest to those who seek to close the gap between strategy formulation and strategy implementation and outcomes.
