Moderator - GSB Professor Joseph L. Pagliari (Speaker), University of Chicago Graduate School of Business

Dr. Pagliari is a Clinical Professor of Real Estate in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago; prior to that appointment, he was a member of the faculty at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is also the President of Citadel Realty, Inc. and is Special Consultant – Quantitative Analysis to BlackRock Realty. He has written numerous articles, is the editor of The Handbook of Real Estate Portfolio Management, and has given speeches to a number of professional organizations. Mr. Pagliari received his B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois-Urbana, his M.B.A. from DePaul University and his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois-Urbana; he also holds the designations of Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Public Accountant.

Jonathan Falik (Speaker)
CEO and Managing Director, JF Capital Advisors

Jonathan is the founder and CEO of JF Capital Advisors. Prior to founding the company, Jonathan was an investment banker at Bear Stearns in New York where he represented public and private hotel owners and operators. Jonathan has worked as a C.P.A. for Price Waterhouse, concentrating on due diligence and auditing services for real estate opportunity funds and investment partnerships. In addition, he worked in the CMBS group at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and as an independent consultant providing financial analysis in connection with expert witness testimony. Jonathan received a BA in Economics with high honors from Rutgers College and an MBA from Columbia Business School with a concentration in Real Estate Finance.

John Kessler (Speaker)
Managing Director Global Chief Operating Officer, Morgan Stanley

John Kessler is a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley. John joined Morgan Stanley in 1993 and has been exclusively involved in the Firm's real estate activities since that time. John is Global Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Stanley Real Estate's investing business. John also serves as Global Head of all of MSREI's core businesses. John is an investment committee member for all MSREI funds, and a board member for various fund and investment level entities. John is a council member of the Urban Land Institute, a member of the Pension Real Estate Association, and the Commercial Mortgage Securities Association. John received an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and a BA from Harvard College.

Tad Philipp (Speaker)
Managing Director, Moody's Investor Service

Mr. Philipp is a Managing Director at Moody's Investors Service responsible for the ratings of CMBS and commercial real estate CDOs. In addition, he oversees commercial mortgage related surveillance and quantitative tool development. Prior to joining Moody's in 1991, he had 12 years of diverse real estate debt and equity experience, including positions with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Investment Capital Associates (a commercial real estate investment banking firm), and Manhattan Equities (an office and residential property developer). He holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Mark McCarthy (Speaker)
Managing Director, Shorenstein

Mark McCarthy joined Shorenstein in 2000. He is responsible for all of the company’s debt capital markets activities nationwide, including mortgage financings, partnership credit lines, and hedging arrangements. In addition, Mr. McCarthy is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and closing capital transactions in the Eastern United States, with particular focus on New York City and Boston. Mr. McCarthy is a board member of the Lincoln Center Real Estate and Construction Council, an executive committee member of Urban Land Institute New York District Council, and a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE). He graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a B.B.A., and from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business with an M.B.A.
