Mr. Rao is a prominent businessman, entrepreneur, and author who sits on the boards of several companies and not for profits, including the University of Chicago Booth Global Advisory Board. Currently, among other activities, he is developing low-cost housing in India. Mr. Rao has MBAs from both the University of Chicago and the Indian Institute of Management. He worked at Citicorp for over 20 years, and is the founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of Mphasis and the Chairman of the Nasscom Foundation. A recipient of the Karnataka State Rajyothsava Award and the E & Y Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Technology, Mr. Rao is also a regular columnist for the Indian Express and has published several books.
