Venture capital firms and angel investors have been major sources financing for high-growth companies for decades. But, how has the venture capital landscape changed in the past few years with the Great Recession and the dearth of initial public offerings?
A panel of experienced venture capital and angel investors will share their perspectives about today's VC and angel marketplace. Join us to hear them discuss what has changed, what remains the same and what companies need to do today to have a reasonable prospect of getting funding from venture capital firms and angel investors. Learn what types of companies these investors are most interested in, what industries are receiving the most VC funding, and how to get your company before VC firms and angels.
Our panel will be moderated by Frank Ballantine, Partner at the global law firm of Reed Smith where he id the Chicago head of Emerging Growth and Venture Capital. Frank represents entrepreneurial businesses and the angel, venture capital and private equity investors who fund them. He attended Oxford University and graduated from Haverford College and the University of Michigan Law School.
Our panel will include Scott Button of Venture Investors, Sam Guren of Hyde Park Angels, and Jim Pavlik of Baird Ventures.

Managing Director, Venture Investors
Scott focuses on investments in technology an medical devices. He previously worked for McDonald's Corporation and Rockwell Automation. Scott has his engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from Chicago Booth.
Sam Guren (Panelist)
Managing Director, Hyde Park Angels
The Illinois Venture Capital Association has recognized Sam for his more than 30-year career in venture capital by awarding him the Stanley C. Goldner Medal. Sam is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and has an MBA from Wharton.
James Pavlik (Panelist)
Principal, Baird Venture Partners
Jim focuses on investments in buisness services. He has an economics degree from Duke and an MBA from Kellogg.
