Event Details

Many of the most challenging conversations we have in our professional and personal lives revolve around giving and receiving feedback. How can we develop the skills and confidence to have frequent and meaningful feedback conversations? How can we improve our ability to truly influence the behavior of others?

The Harry L. Davis Center for Leadership is hosting a panel discussion with experts from different backgrounds, the theatre, medicine and youth services, sharing their strategies for giving frequent, timely, specific, and actionable feedback that influences the behavior of others and builds relationships.

Speaker Profiles

Jennifer Axelrod (Speaker)
Chapin Hall Policy Fellow, University of Chicago

Axelrod's work focuses on improving outcomes for the highest risk youth through effective implementation of evidence-based youth development programs, social emotional learning, and violence prevention. Axelrod previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Youth Services at the City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) where she designed and supervised the implementation of the City's youth services, including those aimed at reducing violent incidents and increasing youth engagement with schooling and workforce development programs. Before joining the DFSS, Axelrod worked for Chicago Public Schools, where she helped lead implementation of evidence-based behavioral health strategies and other school improvement initiatives.

David Meltzer (Speaker)
Professor, Department of Medicine, Department of Economics and the Harris School of Public Policy, University of Chicago

Meltzer is the Director of the Center for Health and the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago, where he is the Fanny L. Pritzker Professor in the Department of Medicine, Department of Economics and the Harris School of Public Policy Studies. In addition, he serves as Chief of the Section of Hospital Medicine, Director of the Urban Health Lab, and Chair of the Committee on Clinical and Translational Science. His research explores problems in health economics and public policy with a focus on the theoretical foundations of medical cost-effectiveness analysis and the cost and quality of hospital care.

Charles Newell (Speaker)
Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director, Court Theatre

Newell has been the artistic director of Court Theatre since 1994. Under his artistic leadership over 22 seasons, Court Theatre has grown in size and national standing. He has directed more than 50 productions, guiding the theater toward a focus on re-envisioned classic plays that explore and add to the African American canon and American musicals.
